I guess that this would be an instance when an A380 would be nice to have!  Smile

Why such a huge demand, when virtually no-one is flying across the Atlantic? I mean, this is Phoenix, right? Not JFK or SFO. Any thoughts?

Germans have a thing about the desert. I know it sounds silly, but all my German friends think the best thing about the USA is the Grand Canyon. They love the American Southwest. Who can blame them?

Someone else might have a more scientific answer.

I agree, Lindy. My relatives are in Europe. I'm near NY. They want to go "out west."

I would imagine they're using PHX as a staging area for Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, Utah, etc. Maybe a large tour group?

Oh yeah sure......we get no end of programmes here in the UK promoting the Grand Canyon, Niagara, Nevada, New Orleans etc. etc......not quite PHX, but you get the idea.

The USA is without doubt one of the best holiday destinations out there.....bags of choice for the couple, the family, the individual, the piss-poor student (that's me). I spent a great Summer out there, highlight was probably Olympic national park in WA.

Actually, the American Trading council (or similar) is promoting 'America' in ads on UK tv at the moment-included is a scene with United employees proudly standing by the nose of a company 744.

Well, great for LH no doubt.

Cheers.

Wow, interesting, and it was said that this route would never work.........good to hear, especially in these difficult times for the airline/travel industry.

I'll tell you why there are 2 LH flights to Phoenix tomorrow, it is supposed to be sunny and in the mid-70's... sure as hell beats the cold winter weather.

Yes, Germans indeed love to go to the Southwest. Many start tours either there or in Los Angeles.
But it still surprises me. Didn't Lufthansa just curt back flights to like 4 weekly FRA-PHX ??
So why are there so many flying tomorrow ?
Any big business conventions or something going on there maybe ?

lhuaaua- I think your F/A friend confused 2 flight numbers with 2 flights. My CRS shows LH3934 and LH448 flying from FRA-PHX today, 8/12-2001. LH3934 is a code share with UA. There is only one actual flight today FRA-PHX on 342 and it is far from fully booked. Plenty of open seats in all classes.

That's great news!! I can't believe how Sky Harbor Airport has grown so quickly in the past few years! Suddenly BA, LH, AC, AM, etc.

The thing is almost 90% of the time Arizona has CLEAR skies, with very hot weather in the summer and cool weather in the winter, no snow (mid-southern part of the state;PHX-TUS). It's definitely THE southwestern hub of the country in every way!

Regards!

I think one is the ferry flight of a LH 747-200 which will go on to Marana. I'm not sure if it carries pax.
