Ship 813 is in PAE getting painted. It went in 12/3 and is due out 12/17. Finally an MD-11 in the wavy gravey scheme.

Yes this is for real. It's on the maintence preplan for this month and the plane is out of service.

It'll be interesting to see how they apply the colors...the huge bulge of the engine nacelle has messed up more airline liveries than I care to count.

Mikeymike posted about this last week, but he wasn't sure which ship it was gonna be. Good to see the M11s finally getting a new paint job.

On which routes does DL operate the MD-11? I would love to fly on one before they disappear. What are Delta's plans for retirement of these a/c? Will we see them around for a while?

They fly the M11 from ATL to:
MCO (DL 63)
LGW (DL 58)
CDG (DL 22)

...and CVG to LGW (DL 68)

They were using it to TLV and Dubai from JFK, but that stopped, and JFK-TLV is being operated by El Al under a DL codeshare.

They also took the MD-11 to Japan, but they stopped that too.

I don't know when they'll retire them. I want to go on one too. Anybody know??

They must have a few years left if Delta are re-painting them! I am booked on

DL21 CDG-ATL
DL1999 ATL-MCO

Go for it ATL-MCO is a quick and cheapish way of getting on one, I made a mistake by not getting on an L10-11 so thats why im determined to get on an MD-11  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

I do not think that DL has any immediate plans to retire the MD11 fleet, they will be around for a few more years, at least until DL accepts more 777s to replace them. Being that so many aircraft deliveries are being deferred at the moment, when DL will start increasing its 777 fleet is very unclear.

While the MD11 has been rushed out of pax service and into cargo duty by many carriers, I do not remember hearing that DL had major problems with the MD11 once the initial problems were worked out.

I hope they are around for years to come! Now the L10-11's are gone and 727's gone or going it will be the last tri-jet in Delta's fleet :-( Bring back the L10-11's  Wink/being sarcastic

DL1999 ATL-MCO

I flew DL 1999 this morning and it was a BizElite 763ER rather than an M11 as per the December 1 schedule. I did come back on the M11 on DL 112. There is a world of difference between BizE on the M11 and the 763, so try and get on the former when possible.

I think I've seen an MD11 at Ezeiza, not sure if it was American or Delta, it was some time ago, so it might have been American but not sure
