A Garuda Indonesia's DC10 has arrived Taipei on Sunday after 3 years of absence due to Asian Economic Crisis.

The DC10, from Denpasar Bali to Taipei via Manado, will be operated on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday. Today's resume flight carried 88 passengers.

With this resumption of Taiwanese flight, Garuda is introducing Manado to Taiwanese passengers about this diving resort. Manado is not a very popular destination to Taiwanese, currently.

Well, because Garuda didn't announce to relaunch this route until mid-November.

DC-10? Jakarta Post says MD-80! Which is it...or is this one of the codeshares?

Garuda resumes flights to Taiwan after 1998

JAKARTA (Agencies): National flag carrier Garuda Indonesia Airways resumed flights to Taiwan on Sunday after the service was suspended three years ago amid racial tension and economic crisis in Indonesia, a report said.

The first MD-80 passenger aircraft arrived in the northern Chiang Kai-shek Airport on Sunday morning and flew back to Indonesia with 88 passengers on board, local Taiwan television networks reported as quoted by AFP.

Flights were halted in 1998 when Garuda drastically cut its international services after the Asian financial crisis left many routes unprofitable.

The situation was compounded by Taiwanese tourists' fears of being caught in riots at a time when racial tension was high in Indonesia.

The airline now offers four flights weekly between Taipei and the tourist island of Bali.

Straits Times (Singapore) also says MD80 instead of DC10. It's kinda confusing......

GA operates DC10s, rival Lion Air operates MD80s. Both have rights to operate into Taipei. Perhaps that was the confusion.

This is funny, first GA announced that it was going to be DPS-MDC-FUK or DPS-MDC-NGO, now it's Taipei ! What are they on about?

I am perfectly aware, oh rude ones, that Garuda does not fly MD80s. I do seem to remember something about a codeshare with another airline to Taipei, which is why I am questioning.
