I am planning to take a big trip in the summer of 2003, graduation! hehe. I was wondering what I could do to get the lowest fares possible. Should I go multiple leg? Well, here is my proposed itinerary.

LAX-YYZ ( 5 days)
YYZ-LHR (10 days)
LHR-FRA(10 days)
FRA-MAD(stop)-SCL(10days)
SCL-LIM(15 days)
LIM-CUZ(2 days)
LIM-AQP(3 days)

Well that's pretty much it.

Check into round the world and joint fare packages operated by some airlines........as good as the internet is, a travel agent in your case may have some answers, for example, using the special multi-carrier airpasses offered in south america. Buying point to point fares will be really expensive, and sometimes the flight search sites like travelocity and orbitz do not compute competitve fares on a multi-segment, complicated itinerary such as yours.

You will really have to do a lot of research to come up with a cheap or reasonable fare, I think, the STAR alliance may offer something (AC, LH, RG) and Lan Chile/Lan Peru for the south american flights. Get a list of toll free numbers and start calling.

Congradulations on your graduation and have a happy and safe trip.

Hi Lan Peru:

So you are changed your itinerary, well in this case the best option with low fares is fly with Oneworld airlines.

LAX-YYZ, with American
YYZ-LHR, with British Airways
LHR-FRA, with British Airways
FRA-MAD, with Iberia
MAD-SCL, with Lan Chile or Iberia ( the same fare)
SCL-LIM, with Lan Peru or Lan Chile
LIM-CUZ, with Lan Peru
LIM-AQP, with Lan Peru
LIM-LAX, with Lan Chile.

Check the LA/LP web site www.lanchile.com or www.lanperu.com for special fares with 40% discount from the original fares.
Also you can check low fare on AA website www.aa.com

Best Regards,
RJ_Delta.

You may run into problems trying to book anything now, since most reservation systems will only accept dates up to 330 days in advance...

Also, you will have to cross the Pacific at some stage if you're planning to use a RTW ticket.
