I'm going to travel to Sao Paulo in January.
I'm going to fly with Varig on the route LHR-GRU.
Has anybody travelled with Varig? What is the service like and what about the safety?

I can't tell you about their service and stuff but you really have something to look forward to as it seems like you'll be flying aboard their brand new Boeing 777 jets !
That should be awesome for you !

Hi:
I never have flown on a Varig flight, but some friends and member of my family which have flown with the brazilian carrier told me that the service is excellent in all classes (good meals, great audio and video programing, and aiport services). In relation with the safety, Varig has no problem with that, excellent and modern aircraft with one of the best maintenance of Latin America, acknowledged in all the world.

Hello,
I´ve done this flight before. It comes from Conpenhaggen. Anyways... VARIG is a fine airline for the Latino standards. It currently uses the 767-200 in this route.
VARIG is passing through a modernization program in order to be more competitive, since it lost market-share for its archrival TAM. VARIG has just received its first 777-200.
More news to come! Have a great trip!

I flew on their MD-11 from LHR to CPH in July, we were three hours late but otherwise it was a good flight. Nice seats and a nice snack, definitely better than SK on the same route. Crew wasn't nice and no explanation of the delay was given but I still enjoyed the flight.
As far as I know, the 777s are only doing GIG-GRU-LHR-CPH while MD11s are kept on GIG-GRU-LHR runs.

There's definitely no 767-200 doing this route, it's a 777 for the CPH flights (days 3,5,7) and also 777 for the LHR only runs (not an M11 as I stated earlier). So daily 777-200 from LHR. You should enjoy the 3-3-2 seating!

I flew Varig Business Class last Christmas/New Years on the route Fankfurt-Sao Paulo-Rio de Janeiro, and Rio de Janeiro-Paris on yje way back.
The seats where very comfy (at least in Buisness Class), but it looked rather nice back in coach too!!
Food where really great, some of the best I´ve ever eaten on an airplane!
Entertainment was good to!
The F/A where friendly, although they didn´t inform us at all after a HUGE drop!!
But I can definitly recommend Varig, they are really safe to, thats for sure!

Wow, Varig will have a 3-3-2 configuration on their 777s ? That's gotta be awesome !
Unbelieveable Emirates has a 3-4-3 ! That's 2 seats more in a row. How can Varig do that ?

Lucky girl!! I have a lady friend in Rio and I've always wanted to fly Varig. I'm hoping that when I finally get to go there that I'll be on an MD-11. I'd like to be on the 777 too but I've never been on a tri-jet. Also I'll have lots of time to try a 777 in the future.

I usually travel with VARIG, the service is really wonderful, very nice f/a.
It is really safe, even better if you fly the new 777.
The 777 has PTV's in all seats, and if you can travel first class it will be really great, because VARIG spent 6 million dollars to change galleys and seats in the first class that has 6 seats that would be a million dollar seat.

Ooops. Didn't look at the picture properly. My mistake. I thought there weren't any PTV's. I am booked to fly it on Jan 10 GRU-LHR RG8756. I was already looking forward to that anyway. Now only more so because of the PTV's.
