Just browsing the scheds, and noticed SQ replaced the A340 with the 772 on May2nd'02. This isn't the first time this has happened, as we were supposed to get the 772 from this September, but that never happened. So, has SQ been granted the certificates required to use 777s to YVR?

It is still Mon/Thur/Sat service, arriving at 1:10pm local, departing at 3pm local.

I'll check on Singapore Airlines Online, however I have no idea. From what I've heard though, SIA hasn't been given ETOPS 180 clearance by the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore, so my guess would be it's more of SIA-hope, than fact.

On 2 May 2002 and 11 May 2002 (Thursday / Saturday), Singapore Airlines Online still states that the flights will be operated by Airbus A340-300X Celestars.

Did you see this in a printed leaflet? I assume so as it is not online, nor in their most "up to date" (if you can call it that) Winter Timetable.

I was using travelocity.com, which is fairly reliable... but like I said, this isn't the first time SQ would "stiff" us with A340. I guess it's one of those "time-will-tell" type of deals. On the plus side, the aircraft arrives at 1:10pm, instead of 9:20am (which is the absolute worst for the summer).

With the latest IFSDs, I'd say it is going to be a fair while until SQ can get the 180-ETOPS. My guess is they will fly the 343 to YVR right until the very end and when it is gone, fly the 345. Hopefully, for them, the RR Trents will start to behave better so they can get the extended ETOPS and those in Vancouver can sample the fantastic 777-ER.

They started to use the B772ERs from 1st September, but then changed back to Celestar not long after.

Apollo CRS still shows A340-300 even after May. Hopefully they will get 180 mins ETOPS soon and switch to 777 to both YVR and SFO. The777Man

Hi,
it looks like SQ changed to 772 for the evening flights to FRA. Nice change, but as it gets dark so early it will be hard to shoot her on finals...

The only time I've ever known of SQ 777 operations at YVR would be when they first opened the new runway at YVR (26R/08L), and they had new 777s doing touch-n-goes, etc, otherwise it's been the A340 for as long as I can remember.

Well guys, whats wrong with the A340? Isnt it a quiet and cosy aircraft to be in compared to a 777?

I hope it is not because 777 is newer, or that its a Boeing.

Seems like most pple still prefer Boeing than Airbus.

Because SQ is getting rid of it's A340s for B772ERs. Hopefully SQ will get B772LRs Smile
