Johan posted a message recently announcing his plans to stop accepting new members for some amount of time. Did you not see that?

It was posted in the non-av forum, but Johan later took the message down.

Yet, he added no link to the screen saying that "Airliners.net does not accept new members" so that would-be members are therefore clueless about the reasons behind it.

That's not very logical, Johan!!! Are you assuming that all 10000 airliners.net users, and all the would-be new members have read your post in the non-av forum before it disappeared?

It was in the Civil Aviation forum when i saw it, above the regular posts, listed as a "special message."

Unfortunately I don't have a link to it.

It was because new people create waves, and it is also a way to weed out the trouble markers for the time being. You can still join if you email him, and he feels you can contribute something to the site!

Yes, it was in all the forums, with a special link above the top, for a fairly long time. Nonoe of us have a right to tell Johan how to run his site. I believe you can still get a new membership but you have to specially e-mail him or something. I say this because there HAVE been some new members joining recently.
The policy was introduced as a temporary measure for quality control, and personally i think it's been effective.

Next flight.... who knows.

It is a quality control thing. And the number of members is still increasing. I hope it stays like this.
