I am flying Southwest from Spokane to Manchester on a pass tomorrow. Good chance I'll need to kill time somewhere cause the loads don't look good for space available until the last flights into MHT. My choices are sit in MCI for five hours or MDW for three hours. I read the other thread about MCI not being the greatest place to kill time....from the few times I've been there I'd have to agree. Is MDW any better?

Depends on what you are looking to see! I've never been to MCI, but I personally love MDW.

You can see the new ATA colors on the 737-800s and 757-300s. Others you will see are: SW (new and old colors), Continental 73's or Emb 145's, Chicago Express Saabs, Air Tran, NW, and Vanguard. I think I covered mostly what you will see.

If you go to the end of the B- Concourse (I think?), they will taxi right by the windows. It is the Concourse with Vanguard and Air Tran.

This is the best spot in the airport if you can get a seat in front of the windows. It is really only good for photography until maybe 11AM right now.

Have Fun!

Dave

Sorry I wasn't more specific. I'm not really into spotting that much. I get paid to fly the friggen things so I get my aviation fix from work. Mostly I'm interested in somewhere to catch a few beers and maybe get on the internet. So far...I've checked the MDW and MCI websites and MDW looks way better with a food court and a business center. If I had more time I'd walk to that mall. If I decide on MCI....I might go to the Marriot and hang out rather than stay at the terminal.

Trust me De727ups, go with MDW! There's absolutely nothing around MCI - just fields. They're in the midst of building the new MDW, so it might me interesting to see how things are progressing. The main terminal area is done and I think they're in the midst of building the new concourses. Much more interesting than MCI. by far.

I have been to both and here's what I can say:
MDW: Good airport, very clean, business center is nice, food court and security won't be bad because it's not an intl' airport.

MCI: Good airport also, but if you want to get business done during your stay, you will want to stay out because they are redoing the entire airport terminals. And it's a bitch to go from gate to gate, or from the gate to the bathroom.

In conclusion, if your not a big spotter, MCI has less traffic, hence you have better chance of getting to your destination on time.
