I think this QF 744 than overran a runway, I've seen it from a different angle and it was obvious that it had overran the runway, you could clearly see the tire prints in the grass.

It looks like the Qantas 747-400 that overran the runway in Bangkok.

First officer was flying the aircraft and realized their approach speed was too high and that they would land
too far down the runway.

He made an excellent decision to reject the landing and
started to go-around, adding power and raising the nose

However the Captain decided that a safe landing was indeed feasible and took over. The aircraft did indeed land too far down the runway and they were unable to
stop.

Several factors came into play first of all attempting to land after a go-around has been initiated is risky at best
and against most airlines procedure.

Secondly the Captain was relatively new to the type and attempted a manoeuvre that he MIGHT have got away with on a smaller/lighter aircraft.

An unfortunate way to end a nearly perfect safety record although their were no fatalities or serious injuries
It actually ended up on a golf course.

Not wanting to lose at least their perfect Hull loss record Qantas decided at enormous expense to repair/rebuild the aircraft.

For the sake of a little pride and a total break down in
crew communication an aircraft was almost lost, along
with 400 or so people, they were lucky.

The best contribution to safety is a competent Pilot.
