It now seems to be confirmed that Air Canada will buy the majority of Canadian Airlines' shareholding .

It will be done by 5th Jan 2000.
I'm very sad to hear that in the long term Canadian will disapear from the Canada aviation 's landscape...

The main consequence is the involvment of Canadian in One World and Air Canada's presence in Star Alliance.
How will they cope with this situation ??

Will AC takeover CP's international routes and fleets and let CP turns domestic?

CP is history. All of the flights...international and domestic....will be Air Canada. Under the merger agreement, OneWorld flyers can get credit on Air Canada flights for the next few years.

Obviously Air Canada and its Star partners will do every thing they can to route flyers on their flights. Oneworld/American/British Airways are going to have to somehow find a way to salvage their market share in Canada but it doesn't look good for them in the short run. Fine by me...I'm a loyal Star Alliance flyer.

What is going to happen to AC's domestic routes? Also does anyone know what is going to happen to Calm Air? Once this merge takes place.

It's my understanding that CP will leave Oneworld, don't know when. I read that in a Finnish newspaper called Helsingin Sanomat.

Is AC planning to keep CP's planes in the current colour scheme or are they getting some sort of AC cs?
