I am involved with another debate with one of my friends. Which of the following airports has the longest runways?
I always thought that the longest were (in this order):
1. Ontario, CA (it is VERY long)
2. Los Angeles, CA
3. New York, JFK
Cab anyone confirm or refute this?

According to www.airnav.com:

ONT - 8L/26R = 12,220 ft
LAX - 7L/25R = 12,091 ft
JFK - 13R/31L = 14,572 ft

Looks like JFK wins.

Its actually this order:

1. JFK (14572ft)
2. ONT (12200ft)
3. LAX (12091ft)

Well, I was sort of right. ONT DOES have the longest rwy in CA.

I'm not sure that ONT is even 2nd.. Airnav shows AMA's (Amarillo, TX) 04/22 at 13,502ft and DFW's 17R/35L at 13,401 ft. I'm sure there are others in the 13K ft. range out there too...

If you want to count military also, there are several Air Bases in California with runways longer than 12200ft. The longest paved being 4/22 at Edwards AFB, 14994ft long. (Edwards also has many extremely long dirt runways, one measuring 7 miles in length!)

25R at LAS has been extended, to 14,000+ feet.. (Exact number escapes me...)
