I am planning to fly PHL-MAD in US Airways’ Envoy Class in May 2002. Unfortunately, they only fly the 767 on that route and it is a two class layout (unlike the A-330, which is not only newer, but has a three class layout). How does their Envoy Class differ between the two aircraft? I appreciate all of your comments.

I recommend you try this question at the USAviation.com or Flyertalk.com message boards. USAviation is frequented by USAirways F/A's, pilots, and CSR's while flyertalk gets a lot of biz traveller traffic and trip reports.

The major differences will be in the seat width and pitch. In the 767 their is a 2-2-2 layout as with the A330, therefore the 767 seats are more narrow. Plus the pitch on the 767 is 55" and in the A330 it is 60". Other than that I think that the service is about the same.

I would definately go with the 330. I was on the 767 envoy ..as I usually never have the money for first it was just the best that had ever happend to me...but the 330`s are much nicer/newer. They also have a better entertainment system (video on demand) and laptop power supply...satellite phone etc. Just a great thing (my uncle flys the US 333 and he told me its much nicer than the 767 he flew before..
Hope i helped y'a out a little!!

As both a frequent flyer and former US employee, I think that the A330 is a better experience for the following reasons:
- newer a/c and updated cabin
- electronically adjustable seats with 60" of pitch
- Sony Passport video/audio on demand
The 767 is still a nice ride, however the cabin is older, seats are slightly smaller (55" pitch) with manual controls for recline and legrest (that's about it; no lumbar, headrest, etc.), and small PTVs - most with scratched screens - showing scheduled programming.
Generally the service is better on the 767, since the f/a's tend to be more senior and like working the aircraft and serving only 23 passengers maximum. The A330 holds 35 in Envoy, plus 6 in First (which is now part of the Envoy cabin as far as meals and service are concerned). So, it takes longer for food, etc. and they are much more rushed and less personal in the service.

Thanks for all of your comments. I'll check out those other sites as well. I may change my itinerary and fly CDG-PHL on the return - which would be on the A-330. It's a vacation and an award ticket so I can do that! I'll be sure to do a trip report comparing the two if that's what I end up doing. Thanks again for your help.... Jetsetter
