LH CEO, Jurgen Weber, met with polish minister of treasury Wieslaw Kaczmarek. He offered joining LOT to STAR Alliance, or that is at least what ministery said in official statement.
LH's central office in Frankfurt told newspaper that LH talks to LOT about possible future cooperation, but not about joining STAR nor about buying SwissAir's stake in LOT (25.1%).
Newspaper talks about at least three major european airlines interested in LOT. That would be LH, SAS and BA. If any one of these would like to aquire Swissair's 25.1%, polish government agreement is necessary.
Maybe that is why such a important person in aviation industry ( Weber) visited Warsaw, and talked to government representative?
Leszek Chorzewski - LOT's spoksman- said that LH is really interested in LOT, because of LOT's strong position in central-eastern Europe.
Government said that decision about who will get permision to buy LOT will be made before end of february 2002.
