It's obvious it's a fake thing:

-Look at the separation of letter N and T, and at the separation between I and E. And also look above the I, it looks like it's been painted in other colors. Good try, however!

That is definetly a fake.

I just went into "paint" on my computer and made the exact same thing with a different pic. Not that hard.

You may think its fake b/c of spacing, but its spaced oddly b/c a mechanic put tape on the airplane to change the logo to UNTIED therefore messing up spacing. the I became a T and the T became an I.

It is BROWN tape that was matched as closely as possible to tape over the original T.

I am not saying YOU made the fake pic, I am saying someone ELSE did. It's pretty bad, even for computer generated fakes.

The grey was picked up with the dropper tool, and the white is CLEARLY wrong.

I looked at the referenced website, but I see no assurance that the picture is real. There is obvious touch-up around the letter "I" which, in the real picture, was obviously the "T". The serifs on the doctored-up "T" also do not look quite right.

There is no doubt in my mind that the picture has been altered after it was taken.

Cheers,
Pete

I did not see this but my bet is it real.Stunts like this is are common during contract negotiations. In the end its just a little paint and some time.

I suppose it's conceivable that the alteration was actually done on the real aircraft, painting over the original lettering. That would explain the different looking paint around the top of the "I".

Here is the caption:

While we initially believed that the image was a playful Photoshop job, two UAL employess have assured us that it's the "real deal." One worker comments:
If you don't already know the original logo was taped over with the correct color tape into the UNTIED logo about 2 weeks ago. It was removed last wednesday and the boss wants to know who did this against FAA regulations! Though he is correct, some people have no sense of humor.

It looks like this plane is a 757 being worked on in one of the SFO docks... very familiar looking.

Also, doesn't look very altered.
