Crossair Incident

Hello,

A Crossair MD-83 with 86 passengers slid off the runway in Sarajevo slightly injuring some passengers. The aircraft just landed from Zurich and came to a stop in a muddy field close to the runway. I guess the press will over-react as usual, causing further problems for the formation of the new airlines.

Too bad. Do you know something about the runway conditions? And when exactly did this happen?

Thanks!

"New airlines"? In the Swiss case, or in Belgium?

LH and the others can quite well take care of the Swiss and Belgian traffic...

Bad news for Crossair!

Teahan,

After all those Crossair's incidents and accidents we can have doubts about safety standards of the airline. It's maybe better to chose, when possible, another airline to fly with untill safety standards upgrade. Somebody knows if LX standards = SR one's?

Hello,

Airways, runway conditions are reported to have been ok.

Avion, logged on now, I guess it is too late since you are not online. Why aren't you on MSN/Yahoo anymore?

FFlyer, my comment refers to the new airline which is being created out of the ashes of Swissair, provisional name Crossair+ flying with 26 ex SR short haul aircraft, 26 ex SR longhaul aircraft and around 80 Crossair regional aircraft. New name and alliance will be announced early next year.

Your comment about LH and others catering for the Swiss and Belgium markets clearly reflects your lack of knowledge of the respective markets.

Gaut, I question wheter we can go as far as not flying them (I most probably will fly them DUB-ZRH-DUB on the 1st of January) but I certainly think that we can question their safety standards. I can think of few other airlines (forgetting terrorism) who have had 2 crashes within such a short space of time. If you speak, there is an interesting set of articles on the LeTemps website (Swiss-French newspaper)

Thank you for those interesting articles Teahan. Really scary!!! LX safety standards are definitively not SR ones!! It's really something to work on NOW.
Good luck for your next flight with LX. Try to book this flight on another airline!!
