0814 [Dow Jones] Getting set to hold IPO next year, Air China planning to bring strategic investor on board; analysts say candidate investors would likely include Singapore Airlines (Singapore: SIAL.SI - news) and HK's Cathay Pacific (0293), among others. Air China should have some appeal, with entrenched position in China government, tourism valuable as traffic grows with WTO membership, 2008 Olympics, notes ING Barings' Philip Wickham, though timing unfortunate as so many foreign airlines conserving cash due to post-Sept. 11 industry slowdown. I think the timing is not very fortunate to announce purchase offerings. The airline stock market is quite devaluated and the major carriers are out of cash. Capitalized partners, willing to pump a lot of money in, will be hard to find in a near future. Let us see what is going to happen.
The fastest way to become a millionaire in the airline business is to start as a billionaire.
