Amen to the title of the topic. UA is the best. Various and obvious reasons. I think UA handles and treates their customers the best. I like their selection of aircraft and the routes they fly. I also like the fact that they kick ass in the stock market.

Sorry to put you down but i dont know of any major US carrier that knows anything about service in Economy class. If you want service you have to look outside the US and Canada.

I must add that i've not flown UA but i know many who have, i have flown NW that was no good and i've flown Canadian, all i can say is thank good they been taken over.

United is the BEST airline. They've been in business for 71 years now, and they know exactly what they're doing. How come they don't have major pilot strikes like NW and AA? Hmmmm? They were also the launch customer for the B-777. Can any other airline beat that?

Just thought I would clear up a few things
first off, I have no problem with you saying that United is the best, after all... they are the largest.
But
Their Pilots have had strikes (1985) and their contract is up, and we may see a strike from them again if they can't get things sorted out.

To: N754PR
Canadian could not have been that bad, the only thing that I can think of is that you were on a DC-10 and stuck in the middle seat or something.
They didn't have the money to get newer aircraft, but now they will.
CP Air / Canadian is known for its above average service
Air Canada is known for good service as well, so I would say that Canadian carriers have an edge over the U.S competition,
but this is just my opinion.

I'm sorry, but anyone who thinks US domestic flights offer good service has done very little flying outside the USA.

You are treated very badly by your airlines, but most people don't seem to realise.

Have a look at the difference in standards between domestic and international flights, on international flights US carriers are forced to compete with foreign airlines and have to offer better standards.

There have been trip reports here about people making flights in First Class of 2 hours duration, recieving cookies and pretzels and saying the service was good!
Am I the only person who would expect a decent meal considering the price of the ticket. The only flights that I have ever been on that haven't served meals on have been in the US.

On flights of up to 1 hour, it seems a choice of Coke or Lemonade plus peanuts/pretzels is the norm. On the 30min MAN-LHR flight, BA's shortest mainline jet route, you get a light breakfast/sandwiches and a separate bar service with the full choice of alcoholic/non-alcoholic drinks! The crews on these very short flights flown 19 times daily work damn hard and yet still remain charming and friendly. Yes, they may be having a bad day but it doesn't show!

Some Flight Attendants also appear to have an attitude problem. It seems accepted that in the US if you make a special request or are in some way "difficult" Then it's OK for them to be rude to you. I don't think this would be tolerated elswhere in the world.

I am continually surprised by the way US carriers look after their passengers. I thought the USA was supposed to be the home of good customer service. If shops and restaurants can manage it, why can't airlines

Simply I think that their seats in coach in Boeing 747-400 is totally unacceptable.

Well, UA is for sure a decent airline, but to vote it as the best in the world???!
i would rather have SIA or Cathay.

But at the end it's up to each ones definition of the word 'best'.

I have never flown United, but I think the attack on US airlines in general is a bit out of line....

I have flown BA a couple times across the Atlantic (LGW-ATL/JFK) and also around Europe a couple times. I can say with confidence that while the Shuttle (LGW-MAN and LHR-MAN) flights themselves were acceptable, the ground service was not.

The podiums were for multiple flights, and there was no organized line to stand in, and the people were not entirely friendly...

Likewize, the perks you receive on discount fares are non-existent on BA. But you get a lot on Delta (the one I fly with a lot) - you get SkyMiles on each and every paid ticket - unlike on BA.

BA is good in-flight, but I wouldn't say that Delta / UAL are any worse....

Delta First Class seats domestically also are comfortable and roomy. The same cannot be said for BA Club Europe.... they are just Coach Seats (give or take) with nobody in the center seat. I can see the logic of this from a flexibility point of view, but I prefer DL as a passenger any day.

Having said that, BA cabin crew always seem friendly and willing to help with anything.....

Just voicing my opinions....

To determine the best airline you would have to be on every flight. Just because you haven't had a bad experience does not mean that United is the best. I've flown United, but I prefer Continental.

Just because there's a couple bad reports of getting bad service doenst mean all service in the US is bad. UA has the best customer service. Maybe they forgot to load the first class meal when they were on the ground and they didnt wanna say anything? You gotta think of the other possibilities. I fly the DEN-COS route all the time on UA and i always get good service, even at the end of the day when the crews are tired. So, short routes dont necessarily mean bad service.

Even though I like United a lot, I would not say that they're the bdst in the world. In terms of US airlines, United may be the best. United has the best fleet I think. They are the first airline to introduce the 777. In addition, they are using new and modern aicrafts such as 747-400 on pacific routes. Compare that to Northwest, United is way ahead. NW still uses a lot 747-200 for their pacific routes and DC10 too. That's horrible! Anyhow, you cannot really blame UA inflight service is bad. Part of the reason may be because there are alot of senior flight attendants still working, especially on international flights. These flight attendants are old and worn out. If you have flow UA intra-Asia routes, such as NRT-SIN/ NRT-BKK/ NRT-HKG, you will see that the cabin crews are younger and wears different uniform. These flight attendants are very nice and caring. Furthermore, their SIN based crew received some award for outstanding service.

In terms of US Airlines United could be the best...maybe
but they're far to be the the best in the world...to my
opinion Asian companies such as SIA or CX offer better
service: best entertainment system, good food and
champagne in all classes, most beautiful FA's and very
polite...UA's aren't in all flights unfortunately, and so on.
