Hi everybody,
in another thread the rumour that the AN-225 would come to STR tomorrow surfaced; is there any confirmation available by now? If there was a firm confirmation, I´d definitely be there. Any word on times? 1000 as estimated time of arrival was the last thing I herad.

Great, thanks a lot. Looks like I´ll have to make room for a short trip to the airport when I´m in Stuttgart tomorrow.
From where can the runway and/or parking position best seen? Is there a visitors´ terrace or something similar? Is it necessary to see her land because she´ll be parked out of sight?
Any other airliners.net members going to be there (Ndebele, B737-700...)?

I´ll be at the spotting hill near runway 25 when the An-225 arrives at STR. Afterwards I´ll drive to the REAL Supermarket near the airport tunnel to make some apron-pics of the plane.

I might be there. Don't know for sure yet if I'll have a car as my brother might need it as well.
I sure hope I can be there around 10.00am. If I'll be there, I'll park at the Real Supermarket as well and walk towards runway 25.
How would I recognize you guys ?

I will watch the landing from the ramp, but later I will surely be at the real,- supermarket. I'm the guy in the Corsa with "Flying together: Swissair/Crossair" seat cover. And when it starts snowing, I will wear a black Boeing cap.
Keep in mind, the An225 will be flying for USAF. So it might be parked at the USAF base south of the airport.
B737-700: If you should need somebody to pick you up, send me an eMail - hope you don't live in Albstadt

Hey good news. I just got the info that my brother doesn't need the car tomorrow morning.
Thanks Ndebele. LOL, I live a bit closer than Albstadt
So I guess I'll be at the Real around 10.00 tomorrow morning.
See ya folks then. I'll only have binoculars with me. About 1,8 meters tall. So that's how you recognize me.

I'd like to watch this aircraft too, but unfortunately I have to work today.
Please put some of the pictures you take into this forum, that would be great!
I wish you good visibility and a great view on this aircraft!!!!!

Update:
I've been told that they "think" the An225 is now on its way from Ukraine to STR, but there is no confirmation (departure telex) yet. They are contacting LTN operations to get more information.
When the aircraft finally arrives, it will be parked between parking position 59 and 64 (probably more than one position will be needed ), these are the roll-out positions in the east part of the civil apron. So forget my speculations that it might be parked at the USAF base.

Man, you guys are lucky!!! Apart from the An-225, don't you get somewhat regular Tupolevs, Yaks, Ilyushins, etc....? I'd love to get some variety at ATL!! I get excited when something besides a DL MD-88 shows up!!!!(There was a Volga An-124 this week).
Hope you get the An-225!!

Hi guys,
I´m sorry I didn´t respond any more - I was cut off from the internet the whole afternoon and evening yesterday. And this morning I was sitting in the train to Stuttgart from 0530 (*shudder*). What a bum - first he initiates this thread and then he disappears...
Anyway, I was there this morning ("only" at the airport itself) but when I was told she would not arrive before 1300 I had to leave ; 1000 would have been perfect between two appointments I had at Stuttgart and Heidelberg, but no chance with that delay.
I regret not having met y´all. BTW, I asked for Alex at the Aerogate counter, but a charming young lady told it was Alex´ free day today .
I guess I just missed the easiest way to see the AN-225...
Daniel
P.S.: Make sure to post what happened today, will you?

The An225 won't leave Stuttgart today. I was even told that it might possibly stay at STR until Tuesday 01Jan.
After the landing, the Antonov stopped on a taxiway, opened its nose, ~10 crew members came out of the aircraft, off-loaded the towbar, the nose was closed again, and then they pushed the aircraft on parking position 62H, which is between 62 and 63. That took really long, landing of the aircraft was at ~15:40 local time, and it was "on block" at about 16:30.
I took some pictures during landing, but due to cheap photo equipment and a bad scanner, all my pics were rejected up to now. But I'm sure CC32 will upload his photoes asap?!
Daniel: Yes, today was a day off for me, that was bad luck. But I think I know what "charming young lady" you're talking about

I was there this morning but I left after about an hour. Unfortunately I haven't seen Ndebeles post this morning that the plane would arrive late.
Now it's dark and I can't see the plane either but I hope I will be able to spot the AN-225 tomorrow morning if she'll still be there.
Where is this parking position ? Is it in the area where the Delta 767 parked during the days after September 11th ??
Thanks,
B737-700
btw: there were many spotters there today even with the drizzle.

We usually do not get many of these birds here. How come you think we get them ?
STR has very strict regulations for old, dirty and/or noisy airplanes.
We occasionally get Tu 154s during summer from Balkan BUlgaria, etc. but other than that there's not really many such birds operating in and out of STR.
25 Ndebele: Well, it depends which airports you compare. In comparison to ATL, STR surely gets many Russian aircraft (Tu154, Yak42). But if you want to see really

32 Alessandro: Dear Konstatinos! Isn´t the Airbus Beluga bigger? Or the Spruce Goose, which only flew thanks to the "ground effect"? Anyway the An-225 is the champ
33 B737-700: I didn't even know the Russians had a space shuttle ! I was surprised when I saw the pics with it at first. Oh by the way, the plane seems to be gone
34 B737-700: Sorry I was wrong. The An-225 is still here. I couldn't see it because of the snow we got tonight.
35 Alessandro: The Buran (Russian space shuttle) only flew once, unmanned in 1988. Did a couple of orbits and landed as scheduled at the base in Kazachstan...
36 Ndebele: The An225 was scheduled to leave for CAI and TTH tonight, but the departure was delayed once again. I was told that they currently don't have enough p
38 B737-700: Hey thanks for those pics ! I drove past teh airport the other day and it looks really cool.

41 Lj: Does Anybody know why all the relief flights with the An225 are flying from Germany to Oman? I just got the info that the An 225 is returning to Germa
42 Hkgspotter1: So after stuttgart it went to Oman, then whats it doing ??
