To all of you pilots here on the website...whats your life like as a pilot? Please name who you fly with/what plane/what position first  Smile What kind of hotels do you stay in? Do you like to travel so much? How many days a week do you fly? Hows the sex life? (regarding your travels...not home  Big thumbs up ) And finally..are you content with your job? Of course...don't answer these questions if they are too personal...Im just trying to get a feel of what its like to be a pilot in more than one perspective.  Smile

There aren't too many airline pilots left on a.net, they all moved to PPRUNE. I suggest you register there and ask your question, that forum is overflowing with people who actually live and work in the airline industry. A.net is full of people aspiring to the airline industry.

Hope this helps.

re: the sex life question. Here's my take. I'm going to offend some. Sorry. A lot of pilots get into that airline job and think "Oh wow, I can get LAID!!!" Whoopdeedoo. It doesn't make you a man to have a girl in every city. Somebody told me a lot of pilots are geeks who think they are cool when they get into a big plane. The test of a true man is whether he still acts like a decent human being when he has some money/power/nice car/good job. Unfortunately, a lot of pilots don't pass this test. I don't mean to generalize. There are also a lot of doctors, lawyers, etc. who don't pass either. Just don't let the job go to your head. I'm NOT saying this is ALL pilots. I'm sure I'm going to get cussed out for this post, but I felt it needed saying.

I know exactly what you are talking about. When I worked on the ramp at UA once upon a time, I got sick and tired of how stuck up the great majority of our pilots were. Most had the "My sh*t don't stink" attitude about them. They were too good to socialize with us ground folks. That's ok...we didn't get mad, we just got even. ...And then they wondered why their kit bags were so beat up they needed replacing after 3 months  Innocent

Yup, there's still an occasional pilot around a.net.

Sex life? hahaha, none of your business nor do I think anyone would answer that question.

UALBagsmasher -- Umm, I think you're runninginto the wrong pilots because whenever I get a layover at home in PHX, I generally bring about two dozen Einstein's Bagels for the gate/ground crew for breakfast.

Actually, some of my best pals at work are bagsmashers and mechanics.

Hats off to you! UA needs people like you. If you did work for UA, you would be a minority in the pilot group. In the 2 years that I worked there, I had yet to see a pilot say much more than, "Can you throw my bag up front?"
Maybe that's just beacuse the morale at UA was so very nonexistant. If that was the cause, I'd sure hate to be around there now Big grin

About sex life, I recall seeing clips of millennium celebration at Rio (or was it Sao?) and they were interviewing bunch of Delta pilots who were on layover. If they didn't get laid that night, they're sad saps.  Big grin

Go to the airport 10 days a month. Home everynight. Fly to warm spots in the winter and to the west coast in the summer. Fly with fairly senior crews and see the same faces again and again so it feels like a family affair. Turn wrenches on my car and on light airplanes in the spare time so I am constantly bugging the mechanics for help. Get overfed on the flights by the hardworking and lovely FA's. Everyone shares pictures of their kids which is the true evidence of the abundance or lack of sex life. Rampers at the destinations know us by first name because the same crews do the same flying msot of the time.

Sorry to disappoint if you were anticipating some juicy gossip. Oh...just wanted to add that the captain and flight attendant on my last flight were sleeping together.

regards

BTW the captain and FA had been married for 20 years.

UAL Bagsmasher, I'm not saying all pilots are like this...most I've met have been great. A lot of them help me with my flight training. However, I'm learning that a lot aren't just interested in helping me with my flight training. It's a shame some people are so insecure they have to bolster their ego by "collecting" women and mistreating others. Aggghhh, the nasty realities of the world....
