The French televisions announced tonight that the man who tried to blow up AA CDG-MIA flight tested El-Al security systems recently from Turkey and Egypt to TLV. He noticed that the only things that were not monitered were... the shoes.
I am myself quite amazed to know that this guy with such a face was allowad to board an El-Al flight !!!

Baec777, no. I believe what happened is that Richard Reid boarded an El Al flight from Istanbul to Cairo via Tel Aviv (with nothing on him) to test out security and he noted that they never checked shoes. Later on, with the bomb, he boarded AA 63 from CDG to Miami.
Flying Belgian, why would he not be allowed? There were no weapons on him, his luggage was fine, why would LY not allow him to board?

El Al spokesman confirmed today that Mr Reid flew to Israel last July in El-Al aircraft.
He said that the security officers suspected him and he was check very carefully top to bottom, including his shoes, and since he was clean, he was allowed to continue.
He didn’t say where he came from.
When El-Al check someone top to bottom they are doing it in a close room so other people can't see what is going on.
No one is taking off his/her shoes in the middle of the terminal!!!
Israel security services are checking now where he was and whom he was with.
He left Israel to Egypt via ground border check point near Gaza strip.
I believe that if he found that El-Al doesn’t check shoes, he was going to do it on El-Al plane.
After all, El-Al is a wet dream for terrorists.
