Yeah, only a single one, but I doubt if it's still in operation...

I flew in one of them once as a child. GVA to Monastir, Tunisia. The egg shaped windows were odd but cool. This was with CTA, a charter airline based at GVA.

AIR GABON is the only carrier left operating the last commercial flight with a Caravelle.

Hi,

Lineas Aereas Suramericanas from Colombia had flown with several Caravelle's. After a tragedy accident on 31 January of this year with

they had to stop service (like other Colombian airlines with Caravelle's) with their other remaining caravelle's though Colombian aviation regulations. Lineas Aereas Suramericanas flew with Caravelle's on a cargo base.

Last month I was @ BOG (Bogota, Colombia) and it was sad to see a caravelle of Lineas Aereas Suramericanas, all white, resting under the sun. Crying

Thanks for your post Wimpycol! Lineas Aereas Suramericanas was the one I was referring to. Are they planning to fly them again? Or did they stop using them for good?

Saludos!

Gabon Express still have a single Caravelle operating; their other one was destroyed in Kinshasa last year when the ammo dump blew up.

When I was based in Burundi, I looked at the former Presidential Caravelle - it's in pristine condition inside, albeit with around 50 bullet holes.

I'm pretty sure the last european carrier to retire the type was Air Toulouse (now 'Aeris') and the only other carriers were the Colombian and Gabonese carriers you have mentioned.
Does anyone know about the one that someone mentioned flying tourist flights in the Meditteranean region???

I'm pretty sure he was referring to Air Toulouse which had a Caravelle flying such charters. I think it was retired in 1998 or 99. I remeber seeing an article about them and their Caravelle in either on old issue or Airways or Airliners.

Hi Lapa_saab340

Go to for a Caravelle's list, and you will see that the last 20 years Colombia certainly was a heaven of Caravelle's!!! Smokin cool

About Lineas Aereas Suramericanas; I think that they will stop service with their Caravelle's. Well they have to, after the accident at the beginning of this year. They’ve stored one of them, all white @ El-Dorado in Bogota. When I left to Europe, it wasn't there anymore so I’m not sure what happened with this Caravelle!

Saludos/regards

At PPT in the early 90's, I saw a Caravelle take off belching the most unbelievable black smoke behind it. It looked like a cargo plane flying around French Polynesia. I doubt it is still flying.
Also, UA used to fly them back in the '60's.
