This is extremely worrying - this situation has escalated further than I can remember since 73 or so. The Indians are allied to the Chinese and the Pakistanis to the West - so if it goes off it could get very bad, very quickly.

That is very sad to hear.

Are PIA restricted from overflying India only or does the restriction include the whole Indian airspace?

Surely the A310 (type serving most of these destinations) has the range to route around India.

My guess - operations to these airports is not feasible right now.

Any word on BHX? Had to collected family from LHR on Thursday. Don't want to experience the M25 traffic again!

Actually Ceilidh, the Pakistani's are allied to China, not India.

Panam, TWA, Ansett, Eastern.......AC next? Might be good for Canada.

Wouldn't it have been wiser if PIA if a 777 or an A340 in their fleet ?

Poor PIA. Yesterday a Gov official said the restrictions imposed on India overflying PIA airspace would be worse than India doing the same to PIA. Obviously the hit has been harder on PIA.

I hope Singapore Airlines Limited are helping the stranded PIA passengers. Though they have suspended operations to Pakistan.

Anyone can fly, only the best Soar.

Actually these four routes were not doing well so that is why it was not viable to operate to them any longer, they were only being served once a week with the A300 and A310, Bangkok is now being routed through Chinese air space, the status of Kathmandu and Dhaka is not known Smile

Im reading in the local news papers that Cathay is restarting its KHI-BKK-HKG service by the 7th or the 9th of January.....this service had been suspended after 9/11. Maybe PK is deciding to quite the route because it will by then have competition from CX.

A majority of the Asian carriers suspended their flights into KHI after the Sept 11 incident. SQ had apparently postponed resuming flights into KHI quite a few times. It had also mentioned that it will resume KHI flights by Jan/Feb. With the new situation between India and Pakistan escalating, I think plans to KHI will again be shelved.

Passengers flying into Pakistan can actually fly other carriers. EK to DXB then into KHI...

There's always a better way to fly...

BHX was suspended due to operational reasons set out by BAA.

But will be back in BHX around March time.

The information regarding Birmingham and PIA was confirmed by a friend, who happens to be a flight engineer for PIA. March is the expected date.
