Virgin Express and DAT seems to go for a merge towards a new Belgian carrier. I know we have this discussed before but what kind of airline name do you think sir R. Branson will choose and what company name would you suggest?

All the best for 2002!!

If the merging take place I'm sure the Virgin name will disappear (Branson will have a minority in the new airline and Virgin is his mark)
I don't think they will name the airline Sabena but it is a famous name especially in Africa, more economic and a good way to not see Ceilidh in their planes  Innocent
I see more job for you in a near futur AirOrange, or maybe, as Ceilidh said, you have already created the livery of the airline.

Ceilidh,

Not everyone shares your opinion about Sabena. Unfortunately SABENA now stands for...

Such A Beautiful Experience Never Again.

Names?

How about Sabena's Virgin Laugh out loud

or Virgin World Airlines.

Ceillidh why not? They probably still have the SN stationary and all the advertising can be recycled. Moreover, they don't need new uniforms for the employees. Only drawback that this brand now has a bad "history".

BTW why not call it just DAT (allthough I admit this will create problems with the Wallons). Everybody knows the airline by now (thanks to the free publicity Lippens and Davignon create).

BEA: Belgian European Airways (Not "British..." like in the past)
BWA: Belgian World Airlines (slogan of Sabena)
Virgin Continental <> Virgin Atlantic
Definitely not Sabena

Ceilidh and Lj,

I am still thinking in the same direction as you both do: VG and Virgin they might go together if they are smart and leaving Davignon and Lippens behind with an empty bag (or a full airsickness bag (LOL)). I think too there could be more behind this all. Wait and see... I have the feeling that Van Gaever wants to offer the same luxurious services and inflight comfort as Virgin Atlantic offers. I recently heard: "I want to have a better airline than Air France, Lufthansa, KLM and BA. I want only the very best for my passengers although I'm aware it will have its price"

Lj,

I don't like Delta Air Transport because it's sound like Delta Airline..
Sn hasn't a so bad reputation: one of the safer airline in the world (pretty important when you book a flight) and a pretty good service (tkx to SR).
Belgian World Airline sound good but not enough european oriented. Anyway, AirOrange, Mr Davignon and Lippens will never ask you to imagine their livery with your last reply  Big grin

I agree with Gaut. We don't want another American Airlines/America West/American Trans Air/AirTran/AirTransat fiasco now do we?

I think it should be called...

Belgian Skyways

And if the airline management reads this board...

Why not call it Flying Belgian or Begium (sorry Flying Belgian for stealing your username but it really doesn't sound too bad for an airline)

Gaut, I say call it DAT not Delta Air Transport (it's too long).

As for Sabena's reputation. Unless they want to associate the new airline with failure and bankruptcy (of which Sabena is well known) I don't think it's wise to use this name. A safe airline is important. However, the airline must fly first. Therefore, if they want to make a fresh start they should cut all ties with the previous Sabena.

BTW Lippens and Davignon have said that they don't bother with operational matters, thus Air Orange may have a chance.

Oh yes, Air Orange what do I get more than I expect? I already know that I get a picture of one of Van Gaevers children. BTW do i also get a postcard with a small print of the Thijs Postema impression? Finally, I like the Lila Design logo on the B737. Does this also mean your aim is to get a corporate BBJ?

Actually, Laurens, that project (which by coincidence was planning on operating as a Sabena franchisee, against my advice) has been aborted.

The Virgin logo only uses a red background - your light blue one won't work for them. It's part of their corporate identity.
