ANA has announced that effective April 2002, ANA will no longer using its aircraft to fly Vienna. Chicago, which suspended since December, is not expected to resume at March as expected.

However, due to the popular demands in Hawaiian Market, ANA will increase the 4 weekly NRT-HNL flight to daily flight, when the 2nd runway of Narita begins operation.

It has also announce that it'll hire more foreign cabin attendants for it's subsidiary Air Japan, in order to cut operation cost.

ANA never mades a profit for international sector when it first flew international flight since 1986.

Bad news for Vienna. They lost most of its long haul services (expect AUA/Lauda) in the last few years.

Strange. Doesn't ANA still own part of AUA?

The shares that ANA owned turned into the reason for Austrian Airlines breaking up with Swissair. ANA wanted to sell its stake, with Swissair eager and willing to take it. SR just made one big mistake: They didn't tell anyone at OS about this proposed transaction. This cost the confidence of OS towards SR, and their turn towards star alliance.
The former ANA shares are now owned by austrian institutional investors (banks....).
The only other airline still holding shares of OS is Air France, with 1,5% of the stock, as Swissairs 10% are now in the hands of swiss banks....

On the operational side, ANA only has one flight a week into Vienna. OS currently operates two flights a week to Narita, which is to be doubled once the new runway at NRT is opened in a few months.
