The photographer claims this image was snapped in 1984, but I thought the MD11 debuted in late 1990. Am I wrong by that much?

You're absolutely right 747-600X and if you look behind the MD-11 tail you will notice the nose of an Icelandair 757, which only started flying for them in 1990.

Someone probably hit the 8 instead of the 9, making the photo most likely taken on 4.10.94.

I think thre is a pull down menu for the dates. I don't think you type it in. But again, I have only submitted 2 photos, so I may be mistaken.

Back in 1984 the MD-11 was just an idea on the drawing board, and the Father of the aircraft, the DC-10, was still regarded as modern. Photo must have been taken in 1994, everyone is correct in saying that the MD-11 first flew in 1990.

Happy new year!

On a tangential note, I recall seeing a picture of a Continental DC-10 from 1982(ish) that had the MD-11 style winglets, apparently as part of some research in conjunction w/ NASA. These apparently evolved into the winglets of the MD-11.

I wrote to Alastair T. Gardiner, he said it was in 1994, and not 1984, he sent a correction to Airliners.net.

Greetings
