Airlinersonline reports that KLM Cityhopper has signed a LoI for 30 "Bombardier 728JET". Means: either for the CRJ700 or the 728JET. Has anyone info about this LoI?

First I heard about it. What would they need them for, anyway? Their Fokker 50s and 70s are not that old (and KLM likes them a lot, last I heard they were looking to procure some more of them on the 2nd hand market).

Word is that they get 5 additional F70 by August 2002 but will later start gradually replacing the oldest F70s with the new RJs on order(?). I always though decision would be around 2003, not in late 2001...

By the way Flying-Tiger, were did you read that the order would be "either for the CRJ700 or the 728JET" cause it clearly states that the 728JET has been ordered. There has been no mention of the CRJ700.
(the story of airlinersonline.com)
KLM cityhopper (Amsterdam) will take delivery in August 2002 two ex-Austrian Fokker F.28 Mk. 0070s (OE-LFS and OE-LFT) with three ex-bmi F.28 Mk. 0070s following a few weeks later (they expect to have 20 in service by next winter). Eventually all of their Fokker F.27 Mk. 050s and F.28 Mk. 0070s will be replaced with 30 Bombardier 728JETs (a letter of intent has been signed).

Nothing on either the KLMC or FairchildDornier websites about it.
For those curious: listprice for the 728Jet is $28.75M in Jan.2001 prices. Bombardier does not list prices I could find.
Nothing on the website from Bombardier or KLM either.

VirginFlyer, you got my point. Anyway, if they have signed a LoI I bet it is for the 728JET. Offers more than the CRJ700 does, especially passenger comfort and a bigger business class which is important for KLM Cityhopper.

The reg of the new F70 is PH-KZN.
BTW the story of the F70 replacement has been confirmed on the Dutch spotters list by someone who works for KLM. However, it's not confirmed that KLM already signed anything

Stupid I did not see that mistake earlier (Bombardier 728JET). Must have been to focussed on the upcoming new year.
LJ, with the Dutch Spotters list do you mean DSML or another one. I cannot find any KLM employee confirming this story. Somebody (and that somebody would be me ) did copy the story from airlinersonline.com. Nothing about the 728. The addition of F70s has been confirmed.

Peter, you're right I mixed up two people. I'm not sure if the guy works for KLM. However, he confirms the airlinersonline.com story except for the fact of the LoI with Dornier.
