I was flying back from LAS to SFO with America West on Friday evening and I was sat in 22C near the back of a 737-300. I was reading a travel magazine that had a feature about essential travel kit. One of the items was a Swiss Army knife. The FA noticed in the dim lights that I had a knife on my seat-back table and rushed over in a panic only to realise that it was in fact a picture in a magazine. He laughed once he realised but he told me he was terrified for a few moments. Is this funny?

I don't think it's as much funny as it is a sad sign of the times.

Thank goodness you did not have a nonfiction book about Osama bin laden with his face on the cover. The FA would have probably had a heart attack.

I think its ridiculous. Taking precautions is one thing but going over the top is another... it just shows how things have changed for the worst when a F/A, someone who has usually seen it all, panics at the sight of a pocket knife - whether it be real or not...
