Its a 767 but I'm still checking the type. They said it would be the -300's but if they are short they will use the -200's.

They are getting another -300 from BELAIR.

Wow, I really want to see this Ethiopian plane. Are you planning to see it during the CNY holidays??

Will be hard to get a good pic though if it arrives that early.

Two African B767s seen in Singapore regularly are Air Seychelles' B767-300/-200 and Air Madagascar's B767-300/-200.

Would be nice if Ethiopian Airlines also flies there to join these.

Still waiting for the chance to photograph the Ethiopian B767s in BKK

Actually, the Celtic Airways/Caledonian Wings project had its origins with a similar project when I was based in Burundi. Our idea was that we would use four L1011-500s to operate derived fifth freedom flights from LOS and JNB to BJM and on to LGW and BRU (north) and SHJ and on to BKK and HKG.

We had already operated flights BJM-SHJ with a combi 707 with 30 seats and 10 pallet positions.

The majority of passengers that travel out of Africa are traders, and both BKK and HKG are natural destinations for them. The key though for them is the ability to be able to accompany their cargo back so that it can be cleared as baggage rather than having to go through the hassle (and expense) of clearing as cargo.

Truth is that there are no advertisments saying that ET are flying to Hong Kong!Only have been mentioned on the newspaper in a very very small article with Finnair.

I wonder how's the service or so...

Best Regards

I would be very interested to know the loads on this ET flight from Addis Ababa to Hong Kong sureley there would not be a high demand.
and what about the Air Madagascar flight to Singapore Im amusing cargo probably pays for this flight, cant see many Singaporeans holidaying in Madagascar.

has 15 in Y and 0 in business
Out of Bangkok 4 in business and 73 in economy
Bare in mind this flight carries a lot of cargo
Air Madagascar carries some good loads out of Singapore.

Next weeks flight is the same
If they do not do well on the route they could possibly
terminate in Bangkok as loads are not bad to Thailand

Cheers!

LXLGU,

Are the 15 HKG pax transiting BKK enroute to Addis (doubtful), or is ET just adding more capacity to the most competitive route out of HKG......... Smile/happy/getting dizzy

For other HKG people, has ANYONE heard of / seen an Ethiopian tour being advertised?

BW

Hi BW
The 15 pax are flying to Addis
The airline has full traffic rights between BangKok and
Hong Kong.
If advertised the airline could do well on the route
as there are quite a few Cathay pax that fly via
Johannesburg into Africa.ET usually have good fares
that are much cheaper than other airlines. If they apply
this out of Hong Kong look for good pax loads.
They are a good airline with excellent safety record.
Cheers!
Tony

My next question would be, are they revenue pax?

I suspect that they might be local travel agents or cargo agents taken on a "fam tour"...

I think EK and GF also siphon off quite a bit of African traffic.

HKGSpot,

It shouldn't be possible, although the latest route over Hainan takes about 20 minutes less than the old route.

Apparently all the changes are only tempoary until Sanya gets an FIR rather than an AOR (Area Of Responsibility) Don't ask!!!

Things then get reorganised again!
