I think Hawaiian's inter-island DC9 scheme is very nice. Like Aloha's "Bird of Paradise" scheme (which I like MUCH better), it is perfect for a Hawaii-based airline. Why don't they use that scheme on the DC10s, for a more "uniform look." Before I took my first trip to Hawaii (6/94), whenever I flew to LAX to see relatives, I would see Hawaiian DC10s and think, what a piece of s_ _ _. But when I finally flew to Hawaii, I saw the DC9s, and it totally changed my opinion of Hawaiian. Their DC10s make them look like an old, yucky charter airline, but the DC9s look very nice.

The reason that the 10's are like that is because they are leased from American and also maintained by AA. All AA had to do was change the colors of their stripings and add the "Pualani" on the tail. Similarly the 10 leased from Continental also has a "hybrid" CO/HA scheme. What I'm really trying to say is that HA is really trying to save money since recently coming out of bankruptcy and not concentrating on image. I also would like to see a more uniform scheme or an all new one.

I would like to say that Hawaiian airlines is a great airline, great service, great food, friendly staff, the only problem is their planes, I flew to HNL from LAX and when we took off a bunch of the overhead bins popped open, I must say it is a great airline though.

Its great to hear they are getting brand new 717's soon. I saw the mockup at the interisland terminal at HNL and it looks great! I can't wait to fly them. I wonder if HA will change their color scheme to reflect the coming of the new jets.
