Sounds like a DC-8

Yes, they're still in service, although I've heard that they are working on replacing them with A300s and 767s. We used to get them a lot in PDX out of SDF but I haven't seen them much lately.

Regards,
Tom

is that a light at the end of the tunnel or just a train?

It was an 8. UPS operates the largest DC-8 fleet in the world. The only way they are going to be phased out is when they are unrepairable or become uneconomical to repair. The A300 is going to take over those duties when they occur. The DC-8's stay relatively close to home now (North America) with an occasional flight to Puerto Rico and Latin America. The 763's have taken over the DC-8 International routes to Europe and Asia. We recieved 2 new 76's a couple of months ago.

We get plenty of DC-8's in SDF! Big grin

Some are gradually being replaced by A300's on routes, particular to the northeast, but overall, I'd estimate we get easily over 100 DC-8's at SDF per day.  Smile

UPS opperates a Regional Hub at BDL and has 767-300, 757, DC-8 and an ocasional A300 come in daily. As many as 10-14 flights a day into BDL with 4-6 night stopers.
