There is no point to point traffic between HOU and IAH. It's so passengers on the south side of town and the Clear Lake area can connect at Intercontinental.

CO also has flights from EFD to IAH.

It can easily take over an hour in traffic to travel from the Clear Lake area of Houston to IAH on the far north side. The EFD and HOU connecting flights to IAH are a blessing for those who live across town.

I remember that Continental had schedule flights from IAH to HOU on B737 and B727 because they had a maintenance facility in HOU. Instead of sending the airplanes without passengers for maintenance.

Houston is an extremely spread out city and the distance between places, particularly around Hobby Airport and IAH can be up to an hour or more in traffic. Continental has operated jet and express jet service between HOU and IAH for years to allow Hobby customers to connect to CO flights at IAH.

CO ended the HOU-IAH route a while time ago. They still fly IAH-EFD though. CO also had an MIA-FLL route until not so long ago (Chalk's Airlines still flies the route). United Airlines has an LAX-ONT route.
