Hey all. Answer the following questions:

What is your favorite paint scheme?

What is your least favorite paint scheme?

My favorite isn't 1. I like a lot of paint schemes. My favorites are TWA, Austrian, US Air, Delta.

My least favorite would either have to be El Al, because it looks so 80's and World Airways because its so plain.

Let me know what yours are!

Since you didn't specify if they have to be CURRENT schemes, I'm going to include some liveries of yesteryear.

Faves:
1. Midway
2. AirCal
3. Continental (current)
4. USAir (toss up between rust colors livery and final red/blue livery)
5. National (new)
6. KIWI
7. UltrAir
8. AirTran
9. Reno Air
10. America West (old)

Ones I don't (or won't miss)

1. Western (white fuselage)
2. Pan Am (I'm sorry, but the blue ball never did anything for me from an aesthetic point of view)
3. Access Air
4. TWA
5. Hawaiian
6. ATA
7. Delta
8. Canadian
9. KLM
10. Korean Air

I have a couple of favorite liveries:

Continental: Very soothing.
Royal Jordanian: You know they did their homework on it.
Others I like: British, Qantas, United, TWA, LAPA

The puke-inducing bunch:

AeroContinente: It gives you a headache just looking at it.
Air Jamaica: It looks like a Brazilian Carnaval, just no girls to look at.
Vasp: Look very, very, very, very, old. LAB too, obviously, since Vasp owns it.
Others I UN-like: SAS ( the new livery), El-Al (agreed: too old!)

Delta: They've improved, but not one of the best. Their previous scheme was just horrendous. Ugly tail with a "dirty" white paint. Ugh!!

Finally: American. I don't dislike it, but they have had it forever. Anyone know for how long? For sure all of my life. Any plans to change it?

I agree with you on Americans livery. I beleive it came out in '72, which makes it older than me too!
I've often wondered if they'll ever change it too. But, HOW? As it is now, it is simple, basic, and logical.
Any suggestions? And no, the lightning bolt is dead and would be best left dead.

Assesment 100% right, Matt. The scheme is very simple & effective. They sure were ahead of their time when they designed it. And it stills has some time to run....

1. I'm focusing on Aisan liveries only cuz it seems that most of you don't know any asian airlines (except for KAL, for it's famous safety record.

2. It's all about paint schemes, no other factors considered ie, service, safety record, image, etc...

Favourites:
China Airlines (new colour)
Thai Airways
Ansett Australia
QANTAS
Korean Air (in contradiction with it's image!)
Air New Zealand (new colour)
EVA Airways
All Nippon Airways' pokamon (all of them)
Cathay Pacific (the best paint scheme, very unique)

Phlippine Airlines
Hates:
Vietnam Airlines
Asiana (in contradiction with it's service level)
Japan Airlines
China Eastern
Dragonair
China Airlines (old colour)
Air New Zealand (old colour)
Far Eastern Air Transport (a big "FAT" on it's tail!!)

what do you think?

No disrespect meant, but I tend to avoid anything relating to Asia...except of course my Japanese Honda, and fine Japanese Electronics......
I have no desire to ever see that part of the world....
Asians here don't seem to like ME...
Therefore, I couldn't care less about Asian Airliners or airlines.

I live in Spain, so Iberia is quite OK, and already nearly 20 years old!
British Airways is good for spotters for the different tails (how long will they last?)

Not so nice:

Martinair (looks like the 70''s), and most of the american companies

Current paint scheme favorites: America West hands-down (domestic); Air New Zealand or KLM (int'l)

Current paint scheme uglies: USAir (no-brainer domestic); Japan Air Lines (int'l, looks like a lit cigarette)

Yesteryear favorite paint scheme: Air California (the old yellow and orange sun scheme guys, not the purple AirCal one) (domestic); no clue on int'l

Yesteryear least favorites: none, because the vast majority of them were better than any of the new ones today!

No airline has come up a with more original paintscheme or a more visually attractive one. The Spirit of the West wins.

Best:

United
US Airways
Old British Airways
Original Braniff...flying colors of the 70s

(Funny how both United and US Airways have blue and gray...thanks Stephan Wolf)

Worst:

Frontier
Southwest
American! Time to update already!
new and old Delta
new and old TWA

The paint scheme says a lot about the airline. Notice how US Airways seems much more of a professional airline now? In my opinion, whites should not be used. Gray and blue represent business and professionalism.

More trivia...looks like American now paints the tail gray. Also, when American first received the A300, it was painted gray because Airbus wouldn't allow it to be natural. They believed it would lead to corrosion. They worked it out a few years later.

I think the best looking aircraft belong to America West. The green and orange look so cool. I have a model America West A320 sitting on my desk. I also like Frontier and Pro-Air. Many of the "newer" airlines have cooler color schemes because they have updated research and color preferences (same reason why new sports franchises usually lead in merchandise sales - cooler colors.)

I don't like American's aluminum scheme. Going back the Eastern's bare metal scheme, I have never cared for it.

I hate both new and old AmericaWest. The old was very boring looking. The new one just look too bright and ugly. They took the UA offer. Their fleet would look much better with the UA scheme. ( I have to say that I hate the new UNITED SHUTTLE letters., the ones with the SHUTTLE in black..awful! yuk!)
