Anyone Flown Czech Airlines?

I am flying to Prague in June of this year. My friend and I have yet to decide whether we will fly Lufthansa to FRA, then on to PRG, or try Czech Airlines, direct service to PRG from YYZ or YUL.

Has anyone here flown Czech Airlines? If so, what are your opinions and impressions of this carrier. It would be most helpful to me, in terms of deciding on which carrier to fly.

Thanks

I was flying Czech Airlines few times, and I wasn't dissapointed with their service. Not the best, but not the worst.
Their A310's are clean, and the FA's are frendly...

It will save you lots of time (and money) if you fly directly from YYZ or YUL... Transfer in FRA could be the worst experience in your life...

Croflight, I know exactly what you mean about connecting through FRA. I flew YYZ-FRA-CPH in October, 2001, and am flying that same route again this Friday. I find if I catch the train between terminals, then it's not so bad, but when I'm stuck for time, and have to RUN through FRA....LOL!

Alessandro, thanks for the website address, I will
Czech it out. arr arr arr.

I´ve only flown Czech Airlines within Europe and I must admit that I am not very impressed by their service/standard. This is a few years back but I´ve not met anyone really satisfied with them. Maybe that also explain why the airline have not been able to expand very much eventhough the country has seen great progress in business.

Not to offend the Czechians who are great people - but I´d go with a (West) European airline.

Thomas

Hmmmm. I suppose my first concern is of course, safety. Food, I can bring on-board at YYZ or YUL, so that's not an issue. But a clean aircraft would be nice, especially for a long trans-Atlantic sector. And, like TR says, NO offence to the Czech people, it's just that I know nothing of this carrier. Does anyone know of Czechs maintenance record? Their overall performance history?

Thanks

As for safety Czech Airlines to my knowledge has a good record - so don´t worry on that part. On my flight the inflight service/standard just not matched what I am used to in Western Europe.

TR, yeah, I suppose if they've (Czech Airlines) been flying this long....yada yada. And I must admit I would rather prefer a direct flight from YYZ than connecting in Europe. By time I land in FRA, I'm BAGGED!

Hey! Say hi to CPH for me. I am flying there this Friday for 5 days to see friends.

TAK!
SKAL!

I know some people who have flown Czech Airlines regularly and thoroughly enjoy the service from YYZ. They have flown Economy and business class, I mean how can you go wrong with business class that is around $1500CDN round trip with which you get to use the Maple Leaf lounge at YYZ . They say the service is good, the food is good and of course you get to drink Pilsner Urquell on board.

As for Safety, Czech airlines is comparable to any Western Airline. They must keep their planes in good conditions as they have one of the highest utilization rates of any A310 operator.

Hey, Thomas in CPH. Just wondering, you wouldn't by any chance be the husband of Magee and brother in law of Jannik and Johnnie, would you????? I know it's a small world, but...........ya never know!

P.S: Thanks, Superdawg for that info. Me thinks we will give Czech Airlines a try. Besides, love the A310.

I have not flown with the Czech Airliners, I would suggest you try them.
First, you are going to Prague so this will help you tune up to the language and culture.
Also, you can expect their service to be like that of the more trivial West European airlines such as Lufthansa and BA.
Having flown 4 times on Lufthansa, I can assure you that their flights are the most boring flights that I have ever been on.
So pick up the Czeck airlines.

Nope - can´t claim to be connected to those people! But you´re right - it´s a small world and sometimes you´ll find people connected when you don´t expect it. But not this time!

BTW could you not brig some sunshine on Friday?? t been foggy for almost a week now here in CPH and I´d really love to see the sun again - just to be sure that it´s actually still out there!!

Cheers
Thomas

I travelled with Czech Airlines from Geneva to Prague in 1997. Extremly smooth flight and great f/a.
I will definitly advice you to travel on Czech Airlines instead of lufthansa. Sometimes the transit in Frankfurt is very very very long...

Actually, now that I think of it, the Thomas I know in CPH would not write English as well as you.

Will I bring Sunshine? Why, I'm bringing ME, and that's enough sunshine for anyone! (gag). And, I'm also bringing 3 large bottles of Canadian Club Whiskey for me pals. Mmmmmm, I can taste the Danish Meatballs and red cabbage now! It Will be fun to walk down Stroget again.

Skal!!

For fun I looked up prices on travelocity.ca for a flight leaving June 6 and returning June 20, CSA wants $2191.71CDN while the next closest is Delta at over $4600!!!!. Off-Season pricing, I looked at flights in Feb, and you'd be looking at $1658.71 but the summer prioce still is a hell of a lot less then other carriers plus you'll get miles for any skyteam airline.

Wow, what a difference indeed, in terms of airfare to PRG. I know of a couple of travel wholesalers in YYZ,
who have told me they expect to offer fares in June even lower than that (YYZ-PRG), they've quoted tentative fares of CAD$685.00 CAD$750.00 return.
Not bad at all.

Thanks everyone, for your opinions and comments.

Superdawg, I thought those fares you were quoting were rather high for economy. BUT....for Business Class, you can't beat them! Especially when compared to DL.

I'm really looking forward to seeing Prague. From what I hear, it is an absolutely beautiful city. I think now I will try Czech Airlines, and have the luxury of a direct, non-stop/no connecting flight.

C-boy, shouldn't that be Skol??  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Anyway, I'd definitely opt for CSA. I recently flew them again under a KLM codeshare AMS-PRG-AMS. Very gentle service, clean airplane, that's what you'll find anywhere but Plzenske Prazdroi at 33000ft served by a gorgeous Porizkova lookalike. Aaaaah. Gotta love the friendly skies!
And you thought Copenhagen girls were stunners...
Have fun

I have flown CSA on the european flights, and I must say, while their service is ok, I would opt for LH. LH has a better on time record with me, an the interiors of their aircraft are nicer. Their cabin service is a toss-up...depends on the crew. However, you will probably get more food on a CSA flight than you would on LH.
I have never flown on their long haul services...I have heard lots of negative things about the reliability of those two poor A310s, but I have heard the service is better on those flights than on their european ones (which is ok, anyway). Whatever you do, if you get on a CSA 737, watch out for the seats that don't lock upright...I always seem to get those, and its no fun. Either way, hope you have a great trip!  Big thumbs up

RoyalDutch, I would never book a CSA flight for nice interior. Plenty of choice if that's your 1st concern.

CanadianBoy.....with a 245-lb girth.....perhaps a transatlantic flight WITHOUT food might be a good idea.

Panam, TWA, Ansett, Eastern.......AC next? Might be good for Canada.

Last July I flew from Dublin to Prague with CSA on a 734 and the same on the return. I was very pleased with the inflight service and the cabin staff were extremely professional and well groomed. The inflight anouncements and safety demo were both in Czech and English. Our flights left on time and the Captain also gave us an idea of our routing.Another nice touch was as we were taxiing out for take off the cabin lights were dimmed and the cabin crew went around turning on peoples lights for them.I have flown widely on various carriers and never seen this done before.EI133
