And the caption was as follows:

"Unlike most US Airports, German Airports are renowned for being enthusiasts friendly. Developers of MUC even built the giant pyramid for just the viewing/spotting for airplane enthusiasts."

Now I know the viewing areas at Hamburg is excellent, I experienced that first hand, and if what Airliner world magazine writes is to be believed then Frankfurt spotting deck is the countries second most visited tourist attraction - so it must be good but is this 'pyramid' really for spotters or am I just so lame I didn't get the joke?

If it is for spotters, is it any good because Munich was on my want to list for when I next go to Germany.

Best Regards

Its not the best place for spotters, there are many better ones at the two runways, especially the southern runway. If you would, i can send you a picture via e-mail with some good places.

I'm American and stayed at the Movenpick near the airport. Even from the hotel, the airplanes coming in for landing were clearly visible, and there appeared to be many excellent spots, along the runway fence, on the way to the hotel.

Does anyone know how to get to the spotting deck at FRA if it exists?

sure the spotting deck(s) at Frankfurt exists. There is one in every terminal, just look for a terminal map or for signs "Besucherterasse", (but I think in a place like FRA there should be also signs in english). They are very good places for taking photos, especially the spotting deck in terminal 1, where you can book tours across the aprons as well. On these tours you sadly sit behind a window of the bus, but its not bad...

There is also a good place west of Rwy18, where a road reemerges from a tunnel, with parking and a small spotting deck. (this is all free)

These are the spots I know there, I´m not so familiar with FRA, it´s kinda way from my city.

Regards, Lenni

P.S. Perhaps I´ll be there on thursday!

If you go to FRA terrace you must expect an EL AL agent spotting the plane spotters and photographers cameras
