I was looking at the ZRH live cam and noticed a Delta Airlines MD-11 parked at Terminal B about the middle on the inside side of the terminal. It was there at 9:50am local time. Is that now standard Equiptment? When I was recently therfe they were bringing in 2 767's a day one from JFK one from ATL.

Yes, until March 15th the MD-11 is the standard equipment on Delta´s flight 67 from ZRH to ATL leaving Switzerland at 10am! See also Pixair´s photos in the database!
Effective March 16th the 767 is replacing it!

Why does the caption in the picture say "always escorted by police"? When I flew into ZRH and out of it on a trip on Swissair from ATL-ZRH-ATH and then ATH-ZRH-ATL, I never once noticed a police escort. Is that a post 911 thing?

Were any other European routes upgraded. I ask because coming back from Dublin/Shannon after Christmas to EWR, Delta had one of their MD11's on stand in SHN beside us. I know the route has been using a B777 during the summer season, but only a B763 in winter, and I doubt it would have upgraded to an MD11 just for Chritmas, that would screw schedules up a bit wouldn't it???
Anybody knwo what is operating the route at the moment??

A whole bunch of transatlantic flights have recently been upgraded/switched to the M11s such as:
ATL-ZRH (started January 1, 2002)
JFK-CDG (started Nov 1, 2001)
ATL-CDG (started Nov 1, 2001)
ATL-AMS (can't remember when that started)
The reason supposedly has to do with pilot contracts and the hours they are guaranteed (according to someone I know at DL) because post-9/11, a whole slew of M11 routes were dropped (JFK-NRT, JFK-CAI-DXB, JFK-TLV, LAX-NRT, LAX-NGO) and DL had to redeploy those M11s....ATL-ZRH went M11 in January after one of the LAX-Japan flights were dropped...
