Boeing,Lockheed Teaming Up For New Jet - Why Not?

If I'm not too deeply mistaken, Boeing and LMC have worked together on a number of military projects in the past.
I was wondering, therefore - would it not make sense for them to team up on a new jet, perhaps this new Sonic Cruiser, using the military-advanced technologies common to Lockheed and the years of commercial experience for Boeing? Best of both worlds?
