Actually, there is a lot more ducting to get the air through the tail to the engine - it is very obviously located at the rear of the duct, not the front! You obviously cant have a huge gap between the fin and the fuselage in front of the engine intake, and you cant really have the fin carrying on down, interupting the intake. So thats why there is a long duct.
