I realized that I don't know a hell of a lot about the history of this airline, its fleet, routes, and the reasons for its demise and takeover by BA. Could someone provide some info about all of the above?

I've gone searching through the database and found a few different aircraft types operated by BC. Could someone comment on the number operated, routes they flew, and their dates in service? Thanks in advance!

well My family and I used to fly them all the time in the late 70's from Houston to London and back (747).. We lived in London at the time, and BritCal had the lock on the route from London to Houston, so that was really the only non-stop choice. service was great though. I still have some of the memrobilia from the flight, I guess i should sell it, oh well I digress. Ciao.

David/MAN--Nice site, but it doesn't provide a history.
I was amused by the B747 registered G-HUGE.

Anybody know how long they operated the A320 before their end?

As far as my memory serves, BCal never took delivery of the 320, instead going straight to BA in BA's colours.

I found my old timetable from BCal it is dated Apr 29 to 27 Oct 1979.

The flight from London to Houston left Daily at 11:40 am and got to IAH at 4:00pm

the Houston to London flight left IAH at 6:00p, and arrived 9:00am the next day

other cities served on this time table were Accra, Algiers, Amsterdam, Belfast, Benghazi, Birmingham, Brussels, Casablanca, Copenhagen, Dakar, Dusseldorf, Edinburgh, Freetown, Genoa, Glasgow, Jersey, Kano, Lagos, Manchester, Monrovia, pris, tirpoli, Tunis

all of these show connection out of Houston via London
some of the Norht Africa cities do not show connection back to Houston on the back fo the time table. i will look for more of my BritCal stuff

now that I've looked I found the old route map it self, the inflight menues, slippers, and magazines from Brit Cal. I had almost forgotten all the stuff was in my closet  Smile They route map also shows services from London to South America (Brazil, and Caracas, Buenos Aires) with much Africa service as well. I'll try to scan it.

I flew B.Cal (BR) DC-10 G-BHDH to LAX and same plane for the return. Even through that one flight only I have very fond memories of the airline. I recall one small incident. My itenerary was MLA-LGW-LAX-HNL and back (non-rev and different airlines). I flew MLA-LGW on a BA B732 and on that flight I was given a BA box of mathes with the BA logo on one side and some London scene on the other (remember in-flight smoking was still OK and souvenir matches were not yet banned). On I go to the BR flight. I put my cigarette pack and the BA match box on the table - the BA side up. Up comes this FA and without a word turns the match box BA side down, smiles politely and walks away. I must have simply shrugged it off at the time but 4 years later I understood the significance of that gesture.
