well for airline freaks, the CV880 is just great. They only had one main problem: Fuel Comsumption! well, in the US this was hardly an issue in the 60's
but i quess we would have seen more CV's in Europe if they were more efficient.

Hi. The Convair 880 was a piece of art, it was not just another aircraft, it had "soul" and it was a very reliable airplane, the problem was specially "fuel burning" and the arrival of the 727/737 and the DC-9. But during the years itv stayed in the air was a great airplane. It would flight very fast and it had a sleek design. When fuel was not a problem the CV880 was a race car! There are stories that the CV880 could arrive on the final approach at 250 knots and land normally, well that's a lot of nerve!!! Only Delta and TWA operated from the beggining the 880, Delta ordered 17 and TWA with 32. Besides them other airlines ordered, CAT from China bought one, VIASA 3, Alaska 1, Japan Airlines 9 and FAA with 1. Now all of them have stopped flying but still we have a bunch of them they can be preserved to a museum, CV880 deserves it!
