How Is The Olympic Torch Transported On Airplanes?

How is the Olympic torch transported
on airplanes? I imagine there's some
sort of container that keeps the flame
going...

The flame is used to light a miners type safety lamp( actually two lamps) which is then packe into a special container and carried in the main cabin of the plane.
That way the risk of having an open flame is limited

http://www.saltlake2002.com has a photo of the flight carrying the flame arriving in Atlanta (its in the slide show),but alas none of the flame being carried in the plane.Before Sydney 2000 there was an item on the Airshow on BBC that showed the flame being carried from Greece to Oz I believe it travelled on Ansett.

Yes it did travel on Ansett. Engineers employed by Ansett developed a cradle that fit into a business class seat. This held a miners lamp type device in an upright position, as the lamp was designed to extinguish the flame if tipped. There were two of these units in each aircraft that carried the flame. What people didn't know about was the fact there was always a flame on a second aircraft should anything happen to the orginal two lamps.

I did have pictures of the cradle and lamp but unfortunately can't find them at the moment.
