All 737-200s were converted to all coach layouts for Express. About half the fleet was parked in Nov. They are in storage not retired. Could they be used on mainline routes? Yes, sometimes Express and Shuttle aircraft are used for mainline.

The DL 737-200s were built circa 1985 and had the latest upgrades such as interior, etc. which matched the level of the 757 and 737-300, which were new at the time. They have much less time on them than the average UA 737-200, for example, and the cabins are alot less dingy looking. I always liked them on mainline and thought DL did a good job outfitting them. This was in the days of the two-class ships, and I'm sure DLExpress isn't as nice, but they have a few years on 'em before they can be considered junk jets.
