It seems the 330/340 family is more popular than the 777. In my personal opinion I´ll go for Airbus, the 777 is a clumsy bird, nothing compared to the queen of the skies the 747

The Royal Jordanian 340 is the royal family's one and if you counted that one in you should remember the

A340-211 of Qatar Emiri flight A7-HHK

A340-213 SAUDI ARABIAN EMBASSY HZ-124

A340-213 KINGDOM HOLDING HZ-WBT4

Well Air China operates both B777 and A340s. Also China Northwest operates the A340. JAS also operates the B777.

Kuwait Airways/Airlines/Air operates the A340.

For South America, Varig operates the B772. Lan Chile operates the A340 with Aerolineas Argentinais (Whatever).

As of December 2001

A330/A340 - 703 ordered (Source Airbus.com)

B777 - 593 ordered (Source Boeing.com)

Before you say that the A330 isn't a competitor of 777 you should know that they are classed as the same. The A330 is mainly a competitor to the 777-200, A340 to the B777-200ER ,A340-500 to 777-200LR ans A340-600 to 777-300/ER.

In the boeing website the A340 and A330 are described as 777 competitors

I remember that before Gulf Air ordered the A330 they chose the 777-200. Qatar Airways also did the same when ordering the A330.

What similarity is there between the 767 and 777. Where they developed side by side. Do they have the same wing, same fuselage etc. Are they produced in the same production line. Do they share non-engine spare parts.

The A333 and A343 have the same fuselage and the same wing (except for some modifications to accomodate extra engines).

Here is one example (Sources Boeing and Airbus websites)

A333 - Y Class 440 pax 5600NM
B772 - Y Class 440 pax 5210NM
A343 - Y Class 440 pax 7400NM
B772 - Y Class 440 pax 7730NM

I won't say the B777s are clumsy. They are powerful and masculine looking but nothing beats the B747  Smile

Qatar:

The A333 competes against the B777, but the A332 does not. The A332 is a much smaller aircraft than the B777, and so is the A342. If you take out the 230 A332s and 28 A342s, then the number looks like:

A333/343/345/346: 445
B777 all series: 593

Airbus has a three-year advantage, and has fewer orders. Then, I think it's clear that the A333/343/345/346 is less popular than the B777.
