Although Qatar Airways hasn't seen phenominal growth in the european market like they had with Eastern Asia, they will start soon a DOH-MXP route frequency or equipment is not known yet. Can the A320 do DOH-MXP or no. The A320 flies for 4h45min on the DOH-MLE route how long is the DOH-MXP route?

Moscow and Vienna are under consideration according to a newspaper. I think Vienna flights will be included by the end of the year or early as the MUC-VIE code share with lufthansa will or is already cancelled.

Also from June 26th after the 3rd A330-200 is delivered they will start a DOH-Casablana (sorry don't know the code) no freq. details yet but since it is a well traveled route it will probably be 3-5 weekly.

They have also firmed up all the options on the A320 giving them a total of 11 aircraft according to one of the pilots though nothing from airbus yet

CLK/SIN/SYD is rumored to start in 2003 SYD will prob. be through KUL. BTW i have talked to travel agent and i was told that the Average loads are 90% and the cargo is excellent on the flights to KUL and CGK and so i am pretty sure it will go to daily by June on the new A332 as the NewStrait Times mentioned.

I think Qatar Airways could do well to charter aircraft to Tunis in the winter season for hunting. Last Year a hunting party of 100 chartered An A310-300 (i don't know from which airline) DOH-TUN and another hunting party of about 60 also charterd another flight DOH-TUN. Just 3 weeks ago my father's hunting party of about 40 people all went to casablanca. A newspaper survey showed 3000 people travel every winter to Algeria, Tunisia and Morroco from Qatar solely for hunting. I know it might seem strange for the non-Gulf people here but thousands of people from the Gulf go in hords on hunting parties every winter.

At least one Middle Eastern Airlines realize the potential of KUL as a hub for their onwards flight to Australia! The only other airline that serve KUL-Australia beside MAS is Austrian/Lauda Airlines. And Austrian/Lauda is making quite a lot of money at KUL since they are the only other airline beside MAS to operate on that route. They are increasing their services to Australia to daily this May. By the way, if they are operating to both CGK and SYD via KUL, won't there be a clash of schedule if they operate on a daily flights from KUL? Hope they will operate from KUL sintead of SIN for their flight to SYD. The A332 will be used to serve KUL or to Casablanca?

The A332 will serve both they will receive the first in March (I can't wait) and this one will fly daily to LHR

12F - 80" pitch
18C - 50" pitch
205Y - 32"-34" pitch

All seats will have PTV's, there A300-600R don't.

They will recieve 2 A332's in June one will be serving europe (MUC / CDG) and the other to KUL and both will serve casablanca in there spare time.

And about the extension of the SYD flights from KUL here is how the will probably do it.

DOH-KUL 7x weekly
KUL-CGK 3x weekly
KUL-SYD 3x weekly

I myself am happy that they will make KUL there Asian hub as it is a new and efficient airport and is a welcome change from Singapore.

Actually Qatar Airways have a lot of cooperation with Emirates. For example when the A300s of both airlines went through heavy checks they both were in one contract. And Qatar Airways signed a deal with Dnata (Emirates ground hanfling arm) to manage the doha airport on it's behalf.

I have also heard that Oman Air WY will codeshare with QR on several routes, what are they?

Qatar Airways is trying to become another emirates IMO. However, with Qatar being the richest Arab country and UAE being the second richest country, it shouldn't be too hard for them. Also, they should develop DOH and make it a pleasant hub for transit pax!

Haven't you seen my previous two hubs

A new Airport is bieng built over the site of the current one it should finish in 2004. The cargo and support buildings are already built (i think). The leveling of the land for the second runway is located has already started. The current terminal has been renovated and although it is small it has the feeling of Dubai Airport currently it has movements of 1.5 mil pax in 2001 over about 1.2 in 2000 transiting pax also doubled over last year. Qatar Airways has finally recieved clearance from the government to allow passengers to enter Doha city while transiting (e.g. to go to the hotel for an overnight transit/transfer)

Here is the artists impression of the new Doha Airport terminal

Please consult this post to see the new duty free in the renovated doha terminal

Qatar - when you said CLK in an earlier post in this thread, did you mean Hong Kong?
And if so, will that flight transit through KUL which I guess is their East Asian HQ?

I hope to see their A330's soon!

For CLK i meant HKG it's just that i get confused a lot.

If they fly through KUL that will add aprox. 1300mi to the direct routing.
Maybe direct flights will be more convenient or through BKK which would mean only 300mi extra

Not to burst the QR bubble rumour, but is everyone 100% sure about SYD- those traffic rights are very difficult to get compared to other Australian destinations.

TWAmerican, what are you talking about? American tourists are allowed into Saudi Arabia. Qatar is a fairly modern Arab nation, just like the U.A.E, Kuwait, and Israel.

I know about SYD. Qatar Airways were offered traffic rights to melbourne but they are pushing hard to get the SYD flights. IF they aren't succesful at attaining traffic rights maybe a code share with MAS is in order. A pilot who is a family friend has told me that. He was right about the flights to KUL and MLE. He also told me about the A330-200 and A380-800 order about a month before it happened so he is a good source.

American tourists are allowed in the country, alchohol is allowed here. You could wear what you want here, contrary to popular beleif. If you walk around the malls you will see Americans everyhere. Virgina Commonwealth, Corneill, and University of North Carolina are setting up campuses here. I study in a British school my friend is in an American school. The accountant in our british school is american, my maths teacher is from OHIO, my IT teacher from Florida.

There is no political censorship media (look at Al-Jazeera which is located in Qatar) (only censorship is pornography which will be lifted in 2003), There are free elections for the regional offices. Women can be candidates and they can vote. Also next year a parliament will be formed and women can vote and be candidates.

American tourists are not allowed into Saudi, neither are tourists of other countries. American and other business men, on the other hand are allowed into Saudi. However, I could be wrong, I think they recently changed this rule.

Marco,

In fact American tourists are allowed (just recenly though) in Saudi but only under specially organized tours selected by the Saudi government. Similar for Americans that want to visit Iran. Women or course have to wear the hijab/chador but you can now get tourist visas to Saudi.

TWAmerican, as far as Qatar is concerned, they admit to being the Switzerland of the Gulf (although that may be stretching it). They have diplomatic relations with all Arab countries including Iran and Iraq which is more than some of their Arab brethern. They also have a Israel trade mission office in Doha so you could say they have a relationship with Israel which other than Egypt and Jordan, is more than most.

Although booze is legal, it is not as if there are bars around the corner from your hotel. At the Sheraton Doha the bar was hidden from general view, not advertized in the hotel directory, and only foreigners are allowed in. But once in, it had the typical scene, beers, liquor, drunk British expats, Filipino singers etc.

Compared to Dubai, Doha is very very quite. However, the water is beautiful, people are very nice, and with a Ritz Carlton I know believe opened in Doha it is trying desperately to get on the map.

BTW, Casablanca's code is also CAS in addition to CMN. My luggage tags always said CAS on them.
