Hi, there!
I was wondering if Emirates have Spain on their cards?
Would such a service to Barcelona and/or Madrid, Malaga (lesser extent Alicante(?)), Mallorca (wishful thinking?!), or the Canrary Islands (combined with Casablanca)... be viable?
And are there any other Gulf-based airlines already flying to Spain? (Which airline, a/c, frequency?).

I am sure Emirates will put Spain on its route-map at some point in the future (probably 2003 and after) along with Dublin and Amsterdam (pax flights). This is likely to happen as more A330s get freed up once the double-dailies to the big European routes are introduced. Most likely to be Madrid/Barcelona (combined).
As far as i can remember Kuwait Airways had a seasonal service into Malaga over the summer.

Actually, it's funny that there are NO direct links between the UAE and Spain..You'd think Gulf Air or another airline would be flying the route..

Furthermore, IBERIA, the Spanish flag carrier and Spain's main and largest airline does not fly to anywhere in the Gulf, or the Far East.
Of course, it codeshares with BA to Bangkok and other places, and probably codeshares with other oneworld carriers such as Cathay Pacific to other Far East destinations, but no direct air link... I bet it would make one good money spinner for Emirates to fly there.

Nice to see the ongoing EK expansion, but will Scandinavia be on the future EK routemap??? Would be very nice but I'm afraid that the demand just isn't there (at the moment).

Probably it will, very soon: it's a question of time... Emirates was codesharing with Sri Lankan (UL) on the Colombo-DXB-Stockholm-DXB-Colombo run before the terrorist attacks on Colombo airport last year.

Well, we'll just have to wait & see then... I, for one, am hoping that MAD-BCN-DXB starts asap (probably in 2003, as indicated above)... & I am very enthusiastic about flying on one (AT LEAST!!) of those flights.
BTW, to all people from Spain: WOW! Boy, do I love your country (& the people!!), or what?? I was there last week and now I am flying to MAD this Friday - Hasta muy pronto,
