I almost passed out when I saw and heard these 2 new American Airlines commercials... there is not a single word spoken in them, only the music and words you see on the screen.

As a furloughed AA flight attendant, it really got to me... it made me proud to call AA home.

Here's the link to view them:

http://www.amrcorp.com/flagshiptoday/feb02/commercials.htm

I hope you all enjoy them as much as I did

Yours,

I hope Enya got royalties for 'Storms of Africa'  Wink/being sarcastic

Is it me or, in ENGINES, does the opening shot start with a 727 nose which morphs into an MD-80 tail by the time it has passed!?

Great spots!

Heavymetal: Yes! I saw that too with the opening shot of the plane!

I also can't help thinking that AA used a lot of footage they already had used in previous commercials to make these new ones (note presence of retired planes such as Md-11s and possibly DC-10s).

Overall, however, those are some great ads!

Not to sound cheesily sentimental, but I think that these spots will go down as some of the best airline commercials ever...

Very well done, very creative, and I think they convey a very good message. American really hit the mark with these!

Like I've always noticed. AA has superb marketing folks.

UA should be jealous! This kicks "we are united" right out of the sky.

I agree! That was awesome! I work for UA, but these are some fantastic commercials that I think reflect very well on the whole airline industry. Well done!

Sure beats what I saw from an AA 727-200 crew on September the 14th in Cancun...

They were posing with huge smiles under an American flag flying at half mast. Flying at half mast for the loss of their co-workers and countrymen, flying at half mast for the biggest blow their country has ever taken. And here they were having a great time making very wrong gestures and comments below the flag. This happened as I was checking in at the Melia Cancun and has disturbed ever since. Granted, they got an extended stay in Cancun paid by AA and haven't been home since it happened, and maybe they didn't understand the severity of the case. But I was in Spain when it happened and I'm not American, and beleive me what they did was wrong.

One thing that I wonder about, though, is how long these were in the making. Not to diminish from the terrific quality of the commercials, but there's quite a bit of footage of the DC-10 or MD-11 in the Engine spot and one of what I assume to be an American DC-10 taking off in the background in the Way of Life spot.

My guess is that a lot of this commercial was stock footage -- which just adds to the kudos that should be given to their marketing department and ad agency. These were probably put together in a short amount of time.

These ads give me the warm fuzzies! They're simple, but so sophisticated. Another great move by AA.

The music is probably a commercial production library (or custom recorded) imitation of Enya's "Storms of Africa"...it doesn't sound like they remixed the actual song.

Enya is a favorite soundtrack for inspirational advertising. HBO did a really good image piece several years ago using anothe Enya song, I forget the name.

Find 'Storms of Africa' on Enya's 1988 album Watermark

I agree AKelley, these would have been very effective on the Superbowl. Did they run on any of the pre-game stuff I wonder?
