The founder of Manchester-based firm Airtours has announced he is quitting. The travel operator is warning of a significant leap in first-half losses.

David Crossland told shareholders at an annual general meeting he was stepping down after 15 years as chairman.

Mr Crossland, who founded Airtours in 1972 said the time was right to leave the company in "great shape."

Given the penchant for director's initials for aircraft registration and the fact that G-DAAC has left the fleet (don't know why I never thought of bringing this up before!), which director has the initials LOBL as I believe the new company hack is to be registered as this? Or are they, for once, making reference to the type of plane?

"Retires" would perhaps be a better word!

David has expanded this company from 2 employees in 1972 to over 25,000 today.

He will be missed at Airtours.

There are actually 3 aircraft in the Airtours fleet registered after David Crossland:

B757 G-JALC
B767 G-DAJC
A320 G-VCED
