Definately NOT a Hajj charter. No US airline would be touring aroung in the Middle East at the moment - and most likely not that many people from the region would be happy flying with a US airline anyway.

American Trans Air started out in '73 as a military charter company, it didn't start carrying passengers on scheduled service until '86 (did charters earlier, I think) , and it still does a huge business in military charters. I don't know any other airline in the US that has this kind of lineage.
