Yet Emirates are adding Aussie cities and all their flights down under are full. When they get A380s I bet we'll see them in Sydney. How come Gulf Air have screwed up so bad?
fly Saha Air 707s daily from Tehran's downtown Mehrabad to Mashhad, Kish Island and Ahwaz

well they were not a strong carrier here anyway, so they wont be missed too badly. I guess Qatar Airways will start services to Oz soon then, maybe hey should choose ADL or BNE as their cities, as EK has MEL and SYD and now PER happily served.

Where did this information come from.
Having been MEL-SIN twice last year in chock-a-block full economy class A340 on all 4 flights I find it hard to beleive that they would bail out of the SYD/MEL/SIN 3 flights per week as it was my impression that their loadings have been very good.
Maybe they're doing it too cheap at $596aud r/t last time I flew.

Where has this information come from??
GF has been happily serving MEL since the early 90's, actually it was the first Middle East carrier to fly direct to Melbourne.
I agree with Joewhi, the load factors from MEL to SIN have always been full in my experience, although admittedly the sectors from SIN to BAH when I have flown have been rather low at times....
It would be a shame to see GF leave MEL and SYD as they have been a loyal server for many years, please could someone verify this??
As far as I know no arrangements have been made with QF, so who will they codeshare on? (certainly not EK)
Maybe an option for GF is to join star alliance, as SQ and TG have frequent flights to MEL which GF could place their code on, dont really see GF forming a relationship with QF.......
And about the 340's, who says they are going, they were, unitl the 332's arrived, the flagship of GF, and among the most comfortable I know of.
Why would they get rid of them, especially if they are being filled? Gf only serves MEL and SYD 3 times a week.

There was some talks about Gulf Air code-sharing with MAS. Not too sure if they are only going to code-share on the Malaysia-Gulf routes only or onwards to Australia. Since some people said Qantas, I would had believed that it would be Qantas then.

Hi to all,
Gf will either sell or lease out its existing A340s. There main concentration is to have an all Airbus fleet of A330s and A320s.
The 767s are also due to be phased out.
About Australia operations. This is the first I'm hearing this, but presume the flights will be ceased once the A340 leaves. No, idea about the prospects of the A330 being used on this route.

Does anyone know if A4-OLA and A4-OLB are still in the fleet (A340)? We used to get those puppies at JFK and OLB sat there once for three days with an unusual vibration in one of the engines.....

According to GF's Melbourne office the last flight is on Mar29 and from then on will be codesharing on 3 Qantas flights per week MEL-SIN, same for SYD-SIN, I guess.

$596 r/t fares aren't sustainable. Who cares what the loads are like in economy? If the premium cabins are running empty, you have a loss making plane, even if cargo is loaded up.
GF probably had very few premium pax because of the competition; BA, SQ, and QF run many services and have many corporate contracts lined up from SYD, MEL, SIN and others.

Iam really sick and tired of all this code sharing bullshit we experience in australia, if i buy a ticket from a specific airline i expect to travel with them. Its sad to see yet another carrier cut australia, really really sad.
