Ok folks. I have one of those public survery questions for you.

The question is,"What was Your Most Unusual Experience in an Airplane."

For me it was in July of 1997. I was on a 727 waiting for fueling to be finished so we could board passengers at Adak Alaska. Suddenly the aircraft made a quick bounce. The first thing that went through my mind was that the fuel truck had rolled into the airplane. Then the plane started to continusly bounce up and down. By this time I realized that it was an earthquake. It stoped after about 15 twenty seconds. The passengers boarded an after takeoff the captain informed us that the earthquake was a 6.6. Still I have been in larger ones.

You turn!!!!!


OBAMA-WORST PRESIDENT EVER....Even SKOORB would be better.

I was not on this flight but got the second to best view of it from the ground. My friend and I had parked his jeep next to runway 18R @ TPA. We were watching approaching planes landing on the opposite end of the runway, getting some neat pix. Then, suddenly, a southwest airlines 737-200 at decision hieght pulls UP on the stick, goes up at about 18-20 degrees, takes a sharp left, then a sharp right, up a little more, then heads straight DOWN!!! Straight down at the US Airways hangar alongside thr rnwy. My friend got up and ran frantically in the other direction for we were right next to this hangar in a smalll field, and the plane was comeing right at us(so it looked to him)
Well, finally, at about 100 feet, the nose is jerked to 0 degrees, the Pilot jerked the rudder which swung the aircraft already in some kind of flare rapidly lining it up with the runway, it touched down on one wheel immediately followed by another, reverse thrust was engaged, and the aircraft taxied to the gate as if nothing had happened."I want to shake that pilots hand" I told on of the shook up US Airways workers near the hangar. He said, "what the hell was that? Some kind of half ass go around?"

Mine was in a BA 747 flying across the pond. The computer thought all the pee tanks were full and closed down the bathrooms. For about the last hour of flight we had 1 bathrom between 400 people. I will always remember that.

I know this may sound surpirsing, but my wierdest was just m, not being a flight attendant. I was flying for my old buisness IAD-COS via Western Pacific, which by the way had cool planes but BAD, I mean BAD service. As I was listening to the captain as the let you do (like UA) I head him on the approch. He was doing an ILS when all of a sudden he cried in a frantic voice "Where the **** did it go? We can't see anything Westpac 108 list, emrgan....." when he stoped in the middle of a word, I had thoguht he passed out, but as soon as this thoguht entered mine, we made the most hard landing I had ever made and then we taxied to the gate as if nothing had happened!

I was in a UA B747-100 taking off for my first time from the Reef Runway (8L) at Honolulu Intl headed for Chicago. It was really hot that day (afternoon in early august), and the plane was fully loaded, so we took up a lot of the 12000ft runway. We were at about 50-100ft when we cleared the threshold and the plane did a hard right turn. I was in a center seat, so the only think I could see was clouds out of the left windows and surfers out of the right. It was really scary because I couldn't tell the bank angle or what was going on and I wasn't expecting it. I think that was the only time I have started to sweat in a plane because of something it was doing. I still am not sure why the aircraft did that, but I belive it was to avoid Wakiki Beach.

BTW: Later on the flight, they sold headphones, then learned that the audio system didn't work, so they took refunds, then the lights went out for a while, then the lavatories wouldn't work, etc...

MY WEIRDEST EXPERIENCE WAS ON AN AA 727-200 FROM HOUSTON TO CHICAGO. IT WAS A NIGHT FLIGHT, THE ROW NEXT TO ME ACROSS THE AISLE A COUPLE WAS HAVING SEX. THE FLIGHT ATT. SAW IT AND SAID OH NO NOT AGAIN AND THEN JUST WALKED AWAY.

I have two interesting stories:

The first one was 10 years ago when I was flying from Boston to West Palm Beach. I was coming home from University for the summer. I was flying Delta Airlines and believe the plane we flew was either an MD-80 or a 727, I can't recall at this time. The interesting thing is that when we were taxiing to the runway, a lady seated on the left wings saw an object on the flaps. She advised the flight attendant and she then advised the Pilot. After a couple of minutes, the First Officer came to the rear to inspect the object the lady had seen before. The F/O and the Captain decided to taxi back to the gate for further investigation. We got to the gate and of course, we all stayed inside the plane. After 10 minutes, the captain advised that the object was a wrench that the ground crew had misplaced. Well after the Pilots went through their pre-flight routine once more, they were ready to clear the flight. Unfortunately when the Pilots started the generators, these wouldn't start. They tried a few more times and eventually they had to disembark the flight because they had problems with the generators. After a delay of about 3 hours, we were ready to leave Boston, and arrived safely back home.

The second story happened in Houston 2 years ago. I was flying Delta on a 727 from IAH to DFW, all the passengers were onboard and ready to go. After a few minutes, the Captain advised that there was a problem with the tires. He explained that the ground crew discovered that there was a lock nut on the ground. I guess SOP is that when this happens, the tire has to be removed and replaced. So of course they had to jack the plane up and replace the tire. Needless to say, all the passengers were very disappointed and angry because most of us were missing connecting flights. I was supposed to catch the last Delta plane out of DFW to PBI, but eventually got home on an AA Super80 (If I am not mistaken). These are all true stories.

Mine was flying from LAX to HNL on 8/12/87 on Continental 747-243B N604PE. The plane was parked nose in at the gate at LAX and the mechanics were concerned about one of the tires on the nosewheel. They got a new tire, which was mounted on a rim, and brought it up to the plane. Then, try as they might, they couldn't get the jack to work. They tried and tried, and even called in several other mechanics, who stood around scratching their heads, not knowing what to do. Finally they must have said the h--- with it, because they took the new tire away and we prepared to board the aircraft. I told the man who was standing next to me and also watching that I hoped that tire could stand one more takeoff and landing. If we made it, they would probably change it in Honolulu. He said he hoped so, because he was going on to Auckland on that same aircraft. Couldn't they have borrowed a jack from another airline? Was this legal?
