RYANAIR’S NEW BASE AT FRANKFURT HAHN STARTS TODAY TEN ROUTES FROM FRANKFURT HAHN
Ryanair, Europe’s largest low fares airline today (14 Feb. 02) commenced operations at its second European base in Frankfurt Hahn Airport.
Ryanair has allocated up to four aircraft to its new base in Frankfurt Hahn, operating over 30 flights each day from Frankfurt on ten international routes to Milan, Pisa and Pescara in Italy, London, Glasgow and Bournemouth in the UK, Perpignan and Montpellier in France, Shannon in the West of Ireland and Oslo in Norway. This new Continental base has already created over 200 new jobs in Frankfurt, and will result in over 1,500,000 new passengers being carried through the airport by Ryanair in the first 12 months of this new base operation. These passengers will save over €200,000,000 compared to the high fares currently being charged by Lufthansa on competing routes from Frankfurt Main Airport.
To celebrate the opening of our new base, Ryanair is announcing air fares at prices that have never before been seen in the German market. Ryanair’s lowest one way fare is over 90% cheaper than the lowest one way fare currently offered by Lufthansa.
New routes from Frankfurt Hahn (lowest one way fares in Euro)
(1)Refers to Lufthansa's lowest published one way fare on these or nearest equivalent route on 12/02/02 (2) LH to LHR (3) LH via LHR & BA to SNN (4) LH via MAN (5) LH via Brussels & BA to Southampton (6) LH to Malpensa (7)Lufthansa via Milan Linate (8) LH to Oslo Gardermoen (9)LH via CDG & AF to Montpellier (10)Lufthansa to Toulouse (11) LH to Milan Malpensa & AZ to Pisa
>>>>> Very interesting how they calculate Lufthasa prices when they actually calculate a LH flight to LHR/CDG and the a separate Air France or BA flight to Montpellier, Shannon, ....
Ryanair, when will you finally stop deceiving the masses ??

Those figures are absolute bollocks, and it will not surprise me to see them in court for that also. Everytime I have tried to book a ryanair flight, you can never get the fares that they state, they never go anywhere near where they state, and then they add a whole load of taxes, credit card fees and airport tax on top of the fare that they quoted.
Last but not least, maybe they should start offering a flight from Frankfurt Hahn into Frankfurt so that we dont have to take the bus for almost 3 hours to get there
Some people never seem to learn, they just assume that the service is like for like, and sadly it isnt

On Italian local paper it was reported that this morning flight Hahn-Bergamo (or Milan if you like more) was all booked by a German radio/TV who made a competition to offer a free fly to 90 young German couples for the St. Valentine day.

You cannot compare these fares!
Lufthansa offer mostly business fares to these destinations.
Moreover, do not mix airlines.
If so why don't you compare the following fare:
Frankfurt Hahn via Milan to New York (other Airline)
Frankfurt - New York on Lufthansa?

Hey B737-700 where did you get these fares?
From the FR homepage?
For fairness purposes you have to post the fares from the FR airports to the major cities and the time it takes to get there!
FR is so funny everybody who is only a bit in the aviation industry must see what a fantastic clown mr O'Leary is.

Let's get realistic. Even if you compare Ryanair's fares to realistic fares that you can obtain from LH, AF or AZ, there is quite an important gap. You do not have to take FR if you don't want to, but one thing is sure: This new competition will force LH, AZ and AF to reduce tariffs on certain routes. You have the same phenomenon on the French domestic market where AF had to review its tariffs due to the TGV competition.
I think we are all old enough to compare tariffs and then decide whether the additional service and availability offered by the majors justify their extra charge.

Correction Andie, it was NOT me who mixed the fares.
This was taken from Ryanairs website.
I myself already stated that I find it ridiculous that they mix fares of two different airlines !
This is complete bullshit by them. But we are used to that by now already.

OK let´s see. Yesterday I booked a flight FRA-LHR-FRA, same day return, in about four weeks, on a Saturday.
Flight ticket price including all taxes - 181 EUR
Ticket price for public transportation from my place to FRA and back: 6.30 EUR
TOTAL - 187.30 EUR
Now, I go to the FR website and pretend to book a flight with the same date. OK, first problem: I can´t be at HHN for the 0655 flight - and if I take the second flight out of HHN, the latest return flight leaves STN before I arrive there. So no weekend day trips for me. Well, so let´s check one day earlier: a day trip is possible. But the maximum stay I can get is a little less than six hours. With the ticket I´ve booked now, it´s 12 hours. But never mind, let´s just have a look at the prices.
Flight ticket HHN-STN - 49.99 EUR
Flight ticket STN-HHN - 39.99 EUR
Taxes HHN-STN - 8.42 EUR
Taxes STN - HHN - 26.26 EUR
Ticket prices for public transportation from my place to HHN and back: 29.18 EUR
TOTAL - 153.84 EUR
So, my ticket is 33.46 EUR more expensive. But it´s less hassle (My place -> HHN: train, train, train, train, bus; my place -> FRA: train), doubles the effective time to spend at London and I don´t have to go on a working day. So for me, the product Ryanair offers is not really convincing.
